As a novice, this is easily the best beginner sewing tutorial I've seen. Everything is so clearly demonstrated and explained. All of the sewing is shown (including starting/stopping!) with practical guidance on how to do it all cleanly. And in under ten minutes! No unnecessary fluff! I'm excited to make this coaster over and over until I can achieve such straight corners and seams!

Hi Deb, my machine doesn't tell me a number. So if I just want a pretty decorative stitch I just adjust the length by moving a dial slightly longer. Hope that helps. Happy Sewing!

Hi I'm kinda a new sewer could u use felt or something instead of the badding cuz I don't have that?

If you prewash your fabric and the felt then you should be able to make that work! I have never washed felt so I am unsure of it's shrink ratio and how it would hold up in the wash, perhaps test a piece first. But never prewash batting! it will fall apart without being sewn into a project. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the tutorial. I've made a few of these, but I don't like that the seem where the hole was (to flip in inside out) is still open. Is there a way to close it?

If you flip it out and do a narrower seam allowance it will close it. Try an 1/8” seam allowance. And if you already have a 1/4” seam sewn around the outer edge that is ok. Two seams will look good too! Hope that helps Ashley. And happy sewing🧵

Question, when i snipped the thread after tucking the cloth for the too stitch, what do i do with the lower thread? I know the upper i tuck it backward under the presser foot but what do i do for the lower thread, do i open the bobbin case and re align it

Also, anytime i reverse stitch on my cloth, it gets caught into the needle plate, Im actually doing a zigzag stitch for mine because these are just practice cloths and theyre on stretchy fabric. But it seems my machine doesnt like when i secure the stitch with reverse stitiching. Is there an alternative?

Hi Rachel. I hope I understand your question correctly. The top thread you pull towards the back of your machine and you also pull the bobbin thread towards the back of the machine before you start a seam. You should not have to open the bobbin case for wash seam. Maybe before snipping threads you can pull the project a little more away from the machine giving you longer threads when you cut? @@TamarasJoyDIY Thanks so much for responding! When i pull the cloth from under the presser foot, theres 2 threads to cut (top and lower) Im not sure what to do with the lower thread when im placing the cloth back down for the top stitch. Do i also pull the lower thread back with the top?

If you are having these problems you may not be using the correct needle for the fabric. Different fabrics need different sewing machine needles. Also, Check this video out to see if it can help solve your problem. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/er2AetZ8kqmdY6s.html I would also recommend not doing the zigzag stitch for this project. But if you are just practicing lines then it shouldn’t matter. Hope that helps! 🧵
