This year my mom and my friend were both diagnosed with breast cancer. They were stage 2B & 1, so tumors removed, 5 weeks of radiation and they're both cancer free. But, they also were diagnosed via a mammogram. So, thank you for your public service announcement. Mammograms are a GREAT diagnostic tool and in so, so many cases, early diagnosis means it is possible that breast cancer is an inconvenience and then gone. Thank you for the reminder - and thank you for another super cute project!

Top stitching the zipper also serves a practical purpose, as it keeps your lining fabric from getting caught in the zipper.

Like you, almost all of my prior sewing experience has been with quilting. I have been trying for a while now to learn a technique to install a zipper; for pouches etc.. Your tutorial is by far the best. No one before has ever demonstrated that the length of the zipper does not determine the dimensions of your project. Thanks for taking the mystery out of zippers for me. Sue

I've made pouches but not lined, I like this. Also, I don't want to sound critical I love sharing info I've learned with others so here I go! When I add my zippers I sew small tabs at both ends. Beside being easy to sew the seam, when I turn the bag, the ends of the zipper incased in the seam layes a little flatter. Also I would make my opening on the lining portion on the side. It wouldn't show as much giving it a more professional finish. Maybe its the OCD in me! Ha! Merry Chritmas girl !

I would like to make one in peach for endometrial cancer. I had a total hysterectomy last month. I also have small intestine cancer and had a small intestine resection at the same time. I'm still recovering from all of it. Cancer sucks!

Great video for a great cause. How did you determine the boxed corner size was 3 inches? I make some random sizes and dont know how to figure out how to measure the boxed corners. Thanks!

+Evita Mendiola we just thought it seemed like a good ratio to the bag size. You can always pin the boxed corners and turn your project outside-right to see if the size will work for your bag before you sew and cut the corners!

I wish you had a white ribbon my sister was diagnosed with lung cancer just before Thanksgiving last year. She's doing well right now. Will be keeping eye out for different colors.

You can use regular quilt batting and pin it in place while you complete the construction of the bag :)

Why does it matter if the zipper teeth are pointed to the lining or the outer part of the bag, as long as they are pointed in the same direction?

We pointed our zipper teeth outward because then the zipper pull is outward and the bag is easier to open and close! Thank you for watching!

We used a 14 inch zipper for this. It just needs to be longer than 11.5" since that is the size of the fabrics at the start, so a 12 inch zipper would work but there is much less wiggle room!
