Haha, I believe I read that a lady started this milk tea trend just like you : she didn't want her cup to be damaged by the heat, so she came up with the idea of putting in a bit of cold milk first. Then other people liked it and did the same, and so on to today!

Me too! :)) it relaxes me to see this world, with people taking time when they do things, not only putting effort into things but also doing everything peacefully...with attention and care...I don't like the way we now speed through life...the way we are so stressed and just the way we live nowadays....even though it seems that we have more comfort, we are not any happier...there are some beautiful things about the past...

I would appreciate knowing how they used the spent tea leaves for cleaning the carpets. I am very curious about that.

You sprinkle them on the carpets slightly damp and let it dry. It absorbs odors and stuff like that, once it's dry you just sweep it up or vacuum it up since we have those modern conveniences. It's great for pet odors if you have pets especially dogs!

Faith L Fascinating! I remember when I was a kid some rodent or other died in the wall behind the cupboard and stunk up the place and my parents put a bowl of coffee grounds in the cabinet and it absorbed all the nasty smell so I presume the same rule applies to tea leaves as well! Thanks for charing!

The idea of milk first goes back to the time when the porcelain or china was liable to shatter if a very hot liquid went into it. As industrial processes improved the strength of the cups during the 19th century it was no longer necessary to put the milk in first. But of course the habit continued after that. Another reason some people add milk first is to prevent the tea from staining the bottom of the cup.

@@garthst.claire3459 I'm not sure, but I know we walm the pot so the hot water going in isn't cooled down by a cold pot, so it brews at a higher temperature.

My friends dad convinced my friend to put hot tea into a cup that's been sitting in the fridge. His mom got so mad she hit him (my friend) so hard it made a red hand mark and when she knew what happened his dad got kicked out for a whole day

I am half Chinese, drink tons of Chinese tea but never have Chinese tea with milk before! This evening I will try : ) fyi: Chinese love strong and bitter tea. no sugar, just tea, for maximum tea scent.

Chinese teas are usually not good with milk. I drink a lot of tea and have tried jasmine and oolong with milk and it's unpleasant. Milk is good with black tea.

I would love to see some longer videos. I'm from the US but love all living history. Especially that having to do with victorian/edwardian life and also manor homes. I have watched so many different series dealing with this subject and it's great to find an original channel on youtube portraying these subjects.

Watch some videos, there are a few documentaries on KZfaq regarding what servants loves were like. If you really knew how hard they worked you would take back your statement. They were essentially paid slaves. They worked hard from the moment they got up, very early in the morning, until they went to bed, very late at night.

After watching this video, I went to the storeroom of my house looking for teapot to make some tea as my family rarely consume tea in the afternoon. Then I found my Nanny's full English tea set that at least dated back in 1960s I guess, the set included a tea pot, milk jug, sugar bowl and a few teacups with saucer. I am going to use those items to make tea in the future day!

I've never understood the appeal of Earl Grey - other than it's perception as the tipple of the toffs. I find nothing appealing about having flower grease added to my Tea. It makes it taste like someone has forgotten to wash out the teapot after previously having used it to apply WD-40 to something.

I very much doubt most people could describe what earl Grey tastes like, and _why_ it tastes like it does. Personally, I think it is an absurd concoction, the "essential" addition that gives the tea it's particular character contributing only to the despoilation of an otherwise very nice cup of tea. Further, it is my belief that were Earl Grey not already associated in people's minds with class (upper, ofc) significantly fewer people would bother persisting after their first taste of this foul fusion.

I live in America, I love drinking tea, I have mine with sugar and milk as well, the same way I drink my coffee. I was happy to see a tea cozy, my Sister's, Sister-in-law's, Husband was looking for tea cozy, my Sister wanted to find him one for Christmas(We live in the country, but love history, me especially) We traveled the stores, the middle aged women knew what they were(none to be found) the younger women(mind you my Sister and I are right in between, the younger women and the older, 31 and 34)the younger women have no idea, have never heard of one. We could not find one in the Americas, he had to order one, but saw he had it when he visited last.

Make it however you like, you say? Alright then, here's the American way! First, you start by taking the tea leaves and throwing them away (preferably into a harbor somewhere). Next, you make a pot of coffee and drink it black. Don't forget the biscuits (and gravy). I love these videos. I Don't know how or why I keep staying awake way too late watching cooking videos, especially since I'm about the least culinary person I know, but I do, so keep it up!

This was very helpful, I recently got some loose tea leaves from a relative and I had no idea how to steep them since I've never had that type of tea before. Personally, I like my tea strong with just a bit of sugar or honey and without milk. My sister is the exact opposite :D

This is basically exactly how I make my tea, only with the addition of milk. (I prefer mine with just sugar.) Granted, I have some lovely modern conveniences like the Breville tea maker as well as custom tea bags that I can fill with my own loose leaf tea.

Back in the day Indian and Ceylon tea was always considered superior in the West. Is this true or just smart advertising.......I dont know. Personally I have never met a black tea I didn't like
