When you cut you sine wave form, you keep and use the off cut as the outer clamp face. It equalizes the clamping pressure.

Man, that's the best looking cutting board that I've seen for a long time. Something I've started doing with mineral oil and wax/oil mix is heat them a little in a pan of hot water. Seems to help them penetrate better.

Very cool project! I'm trying this, the glue-up is in progress. I didn't really understand why you drilled the holes for the clamps (which I skipped... for those of you watching at home, don't skip), that is a smart touch. Thanks for sharing this.

Done! This was kind of a dry run/experiment, the technique worked awesome. Mine had too much going on with contrasting wood (things I had lying around), but will definitely repeat. This would make an amazing curved coffee table top or something. If trying this, I suggest going big with the contrast, or more subtle as Brad's done. When you start applying the clamps and the wood curves, it's kinda magical. Thanks again!

Wouldn't it have been easier if you used both sides of the curved pattern that you cut out on the band saw so you could just clamp the strips of wood in between them. Then you would have had two straight parallel faces that you could clamp more easily. Just a thought, I may be wrong.
@calaban9
@calaban9 7 жыл бұрын
Had the same thought. When they cut the curve to one side of the form I couldn't understand why. Great build though!
@Stizzer123
@Stizzer123 7 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Then it would also have eliminated the gaps that appeared from uneven clamping pressure as it would have been consistent throughout the entire curve
@Fixthisbuildthat
@Fixthisbuildthat 7 жыл бұрын
Krizo the issue is that the curves aren't the same after 49 layers. With each layer the convex curve radius gets tighter and the concave radius gets longer. We had the same thought, but in practice it doesn't work that way.
