Cute dress. So here's a quick gathering tip: take a roll of fishing line and zigzag over it using a big stitch. Pull the fishing line until you get the gathers you want. Secure the gathers then but the fishing line. Perfect gathers every time! And you don't have to worry about breaking the gathering "thread".

Even without fishing line, a wide zigzag with sturdy thread, and pulling the bobbin thread is a good method.

Mama always used two rows of gathering stitches because they made a more ‘stable’ set of gathers. You still gathered them simultaneously. Very cute dress!

Oh, wow! On a freakishly weird trip to goodwill, I found 2 identical Tommy Bahama cotton and silk blend button-down shirts. I grabbed them because the fabric was such a pretty blue and pink plaid, and felt so good. They will make a PERFECT dress!
