How to build a DIY Steel Fire Pit. I welded this fire pit together from ⅛” steel plate and ⅛” square tube. It was my first time welding a full metal project and cutting this much steel at once. I learned a lot about metalworking and came out with a sweet portable DIY fire pit. It’s perfect for taking to tailgate or just a backyard firepit that won’t take up a permanent spot. #firepit #metalworking #welding

Exactly what I'm looking to build. Question: is there anything you can spray, coat, or imbue the metal with that would 1) protect it from the elements, and 2) still be food-safe (for searing steaks and such!)?

My entry level is a amico 160 stick/ tig. $150 and so far so good. Burn 3/32 7018’s and 1/16 6013’s and 3/32 309’s. Rarely use 1/8 as I don’t typically work with over 1/4” steel

It’s a good investment if you know your going to get further into welding but I do agree that this is a high price for “entry level”

I really dig this. It's so simple in the cuts but the final piece has a nice modern complexity to it. I'm very very interested in making something like this and actually have the equipment but am hesitant to pull the trigger not knowing how it might stand up to the elements. I'd love if it you'd post an end of summer instagram update to show how it held up...maybe? Cheers brad.

When welding the sides of the pit, does it matter if you weld on the inside or the outside? I’ve watched several videos and it is split down the middle - some weld on outside and some weld on inside. Does it matter or is it for looks?
