As a Prepper I’m always happy to see the budget emergency videos for those starting out. Between unnatural weather conditions to today’s uncertain times there are more people finding a need to have some preparations. This is a great video to help them. I always try to encourage people to have all their important papers ready to grab at a moments notice as well, and someone else already mentioned prescription meds. I’ve been doing this for years, but if they just type in emergency preparedness on KZfaq, they will encounter all the tactical, cool gadget stuff and it is definitely overwhelming for a beginner. I’ve found backpacks for less than $10 and the Dollar Tree stuff is a great place to fill them with necessities. As far as the batteries, that’s what I use, just don’t store them in the flashlights and such. Keep them in their own package until needed (which I would do even if they are Duracell batteries). Another thing I try to tell the beginners about preparedness is to steer clear of freeze dried and dehydrated foods until they are certain they have their water situation prepared to handle the amount of water it takes to rehydrate them. You can find checklists to print off and make sure you’ve covered the basics, at the very least. Thanks for the video, it will definitely be helpful 🙏🏻

Btw, I just got my LDS preparedness manual (which I discovered through one of your vids), and that thing is amazing. Even as someone that’s been doing this a while, that book is a definite must have.

Amazon has a waterproof and fire proof document folder. We got one of those to keep copies of all of our important documents. Birth certs, marriage certificate, social security cards, bank account numbers, etc. don’t forget extra cash in small bills too.

We live in Florida, and hurricane prep each year. Another good idea is the outdoor solar lights. Charge them up during the day, and bring them in at night. The kids love to carry one with them, and it saves on batteries. Lasts well past bedtime.

good morning. Batteries - I use theirs in all of my Holiday displays and they hold up great! I bought a red back pack at a thrift store and filled it with the emergency first aid. When I purchased the first aid items at $Tree during our back to school 'no tax' weekend, they didn't charge me tax on the first aid items. this is just for my first aid. I have a large suitcase that I use to store all the other emergency supplies. Hurricanes aren't an issue here but tornadoes are so I keep the bag in the lowest NE corner of our basement... in our 'safe' corner. Be sure to rotate the items in your bags out every year... maybe on New Years Eve... so that you don't have expired medicines. Great items that you found! Be safe, Be prepared, Be Blessed!

Hi. Two things. 1. the batteries are not all that great, but they are good enough for emergencies. 2. i always add super glue to my bugout bags. for that just in case the wound is too deep and a band aid will not do. I also keep duct tape, electrical tape, a magnifying glass, and paracord as essential items. great job on the video.

A gallon of water per person per day is what is needed. So I recommend a water purifier and water bottles that have filters in them or life straws available at Walmart or Amazon etc. water is the most important but you can’t fit enough water in a back pack. In the back pack Gatorade is better and then some life straws and something to boil water in.

We love the chicken or tuna on the run kits, Campbell's soup to go, fruit cups, even 90 second rice or minute rice and tasty bite indian pouches. It's easy enough to eat cold and it's already cooked and somewhat healthy. I don't really love the batteries at first tere, they don't last long, it might be better to get rechargeable ones, or Duracell that are good for 10 years on the shelf. Oh, and DO NOT forget about the needs of your pet, food, water, poo bags, a collapsible bowl, etc.

Costco sells Kirkland brand batteries and they are great. They end up costing less per battery than the normal sized packages. Also, worst case scenario...if you have those battery operated solar lights in your yard...they most often use rechargeable AA batteries, which you can use and if you need to recharge you can put them back out in the solar lights to recharge. :)

Some items at Dollar Tree will take up more bulk and weight than items purchased from surplus firms or outdoor stores. For example, the can opener shown is good but a "John Wayne" can opener is less of a space hog. It's heck on the thumb but soldiers used these for years. Don't skimp on batteries, either. I love Kroger brand batteries, Energizers and Duracell. You also need a second or third way to purify water in your kit. The Micropur is good but PA Plus has a quicker purification time. The same goes for fire starting. I get magnesium spark bars from Harbor Freight. Finally the first aid kids should have an Ambu rescue breather shield and good gloves. Over time save a few coins and get a Stop the Bleed kit (tourniquet from North American Rescue, Israeli dressing, and stuffing gauze). But the best prep is being physically fit.

One of the basic tenets of survival is something is better than nothing. Sure and dollar store knife may not have the best steel but in a pinch its better than no knife. I've found fire starters in my dollar store that I swear by, they're cheap as hell and work great. I also found a small work light that runs on AAA batteries, 3 settings and works awesome. Plus you may find items than can be repurposed.

We always make sure we have batteries on hand and a flashlight 🔦 If you didn’t pick up you could’ve picked up some hand cream maybe? I was gonna say some headphones but I don’t think that’s really necessary for that type of emergency kit? Oh you could also throw in Kleenex and get some containers with some reusable forks and spoons plates and bowls because you never know where you’ll be when an emergency hits and when you’re going to need that.
