A small magnetic switch, battery, & bell or buzzer would certainly look a lot better especially if you located the battery & bell in a non obvious place.

Isn't 9v too much for the motor?

The motor won't be running continuously or longer than intended. 9v is fine for this application; however, 2 AA batteries would suffice.
