Making a mini power hacksaw for the drill press. It's mostly good for small parts but it can also handle larger pieces too.

Power hacksaws might be old school but I believe its still worth while owning one. There are no sparks flying around to start fires for a start and for slicing up 3-4inch diameter stock they work really well..you set them working and move away and do some thing else until you hear a gigantic clang---then go and retrieve your part.. You can power them with any thing--electric drill to old washing machine motors.. Good video--thumbs up

Nice idea/ creativity, the only draw back that i can see which can easily be fixed is by increasing the stroke of the crank so that the hacksaw blade can be fully utilized. Never the less, great work!

Would the slider pipe, or the guide rings end up getting heated/worn through over time, and have to be replaced? Perhaps a bearing setting up there would improve your design? either way, thank you for putting out another cool video. I've got your plastic bottle air pressure videos saved, so that i can replicate them, and create my own power source via bicycle pump. Once I've got that project done, I can attempt all sorts of stuff. Having a quickly and easily refillable power source that is easily moved/maintained is amazing. There are a LOT of air powered tools out there just begging to be hooked up to your homemade air compressor tanks. My main goal is to learn the concept first hand, then miniaturize it with a tiny 1cm diameter, 3cm long container that i can put inside of things. Boom: Rechargeable little desk toys/tools that fit in your pocket! no electricity required, so i can take them hiking with me. heck....maybe even hook it up to an alternator, and a simple voltage regulation circuit to charge my phone with the power of a small bike/sports-ball pump. Might be able to modify the concept and use a football that already has a pump spot, and have a release valve drilled into it on the other side. Your videos get me so gosh dang amped for when i have the tools and money to create my own contraptions!

Whilst i'll not use a drill press for this, i like the setup and i have a shitty, tiny angle grinder i keep for light work, probably gonna throw a similar setup on a stand with a pivot so it mimics the normal power saws. Thanks, i was actually kicking ideas around and got really caught up in the power element, a grinder is perfect for this.

Oh and btw, acetone melts plastic, leave it on your window for half and hour and you can then peel it off. Burning isn't good for your eyes, neither is acetone for your lungs, but that's why you put it on a window in the air. :) I do it all the time when i want to get to a metal shaft, especially when i manage to score a giant antiquated Xerox printer, one of those behemoths with caster wheels, those have tons of high grade shafts, but each one seems to have some plastic tray arm or whatever on it. Half an hour in acetone and they peel off like butter.

+ZamaskowanyWolnościowiec The point of a slow cutting hacksaw is to cut through things that will overheat, either your blade or the item, if you cut too fast or with too much pressure. This machine will keep a constant pressure on the object to be cut, and keep a constant speed. You can set it to cut something, and leave it for hours and hours while you work on other stuff, then come back to a perfectly cut piece that would have needed either a rough cut(removing excess material), or a more expensive tool, or a continuous application of oil/water to cool the cutting down while it is cutting. TL;DR: Machine makes cutting things slowly more simple.

Your use of overlaid white text to narrate your actions is SUPERB. Black text is so much harder to read when overlaid on videos. You need to make sure the object being milled, cut, drilled, etc, is in the center of the video frame. Why was it necessary to use an AC motor from a handheld rotary milling machine? As opposed, to just using the drill press's AC motor for torque to power the reciprocating saw ?
