The Espresso Martini is a modern classic created in the 1980’s, it is a simple but effective mixture of vodka, coffee liqueur and fresh espresso.
When shaken together with the other ingredients the coffee in the espresso martini aerates to create the distinctive frothy head. While it’s certainly best to use fresh espresso, you can use cold brew coffee or even strong instant and as long as it's freshly made and you shake it hard enough it will yield the same aesthetically pleasing look and silky smooth texture.

HISTORY:
The Espresso Martini’s most famous and widely accepted origin story is that it was created in 1983 by legendary British bartender, Dick Bradsell, while he was working in Soho. The infamous story goes that a young, unnamed model-who Bradsell claims would go on to be world famous-slinked up to his bar and requested a drink that would “wake her up and then f*** her up”.
Bradsell made use of the bar’s newly installed coffee machine and mixed a shot of fresh espresso with vodka, coffee liqueur and sugar, creating what he initially called the Vodka Espresso, before settling on the Espresso Martini.
The drink has remained one of the most popular and well known cocktails the worldover ever since and its elegant simplicity and broad appeal have cemented its status as a modern classic.
