I really love how you use wood from the fire pile to make your tools. Really shows what the material we use really is!

NICE WIRK!!! I made myself a light " Tapper" on the lathe. More of cylinder shaped head however the handle goes into the round end. With the little taper and the other end flat it is handy to persuade when needed

never used it before, what should I be expecting with hand tools? speaking of wood species, an older lady had a really old maple taken down at her house and I ended up with "what was left" which was a truckload of 4-5' in diameter pieces of the base which i just processed and chucked it in the back of the truck not thinking anything about it until i started running out of firewood for the stove in my cabin and started chopping it up. the first piece cam off and I was shocked to find out is was all highly figured curly. all that to say curly maple stinks to split as one would imagine and doesn't burn as good as regular old maple either at least not at the beginning, super slow burning with almost no flame and doesn't get super hot so it's perfect for my small cabin once i have a good bed of coals. almost seams sacrilegious to burn curly maple but i don;t care much for processing it with hand tools and the pieces were 4-5' rounds only like 15" long so kind of useless. i must admit I will stash a few pieces to the side for smaller projects hehe.

Great works, but you need to brace your workbench better. All that movement is making your cutting and planing inefficient and likely less precise.

it is actually not in its normal space and one leg is 1/6" off the ground making it rock with any force. after shooting the video I put it back.

Right. That is a big mistake I see people making, particularly when it comes to how they mount their vise. Hell, I used to think the hacksaw was the devil until I figured out the bench was eating up half my energy.

yup. and it is something you don't always feel but when you put a camera on it you see every bit of movement.

Couldn't you just have one mallet, one side is just the wood face and the other side just the leather?
@WoodByWright
@WoodByWright 7 жыл бұрын
you could but it could get tricky say you are in the middle of an intense glue up and you quickly use the wrong side and ding up the work. most wood shops have a pile of mallets for different uses. I have over 10 that I use all the time. there is no one mallet that does them all.
