This the the first tutorial for X-Plane 11 which covers flight planning. There are many ways of making a flight plan and you can select any one of them according to your convenience.
Initially I struggled a lot in making a flight plan and entering it in the FMS. After several trials I was able to make my own flight plans. The method used by me in this video is the easiest and it enables me to make a flight plan and enter it in the FMS within 5 minutes.

Hi. Melom is not your SID (standard instrument departure). Melom is a waypoint where the MELO3B SID will lead you. If you select Melom as you did, the FMC will guide you directly to MELOM from your current position. This means you will not be flying SID, but instead you would fly straight to Melom. Therefore, your departure is definitely not safe. To insert SID correctly, you need to push DEP/ARR softkey after selectin departure and destination airports. There you can choose the runways and select the correct rwy and then you will see all SIDs that are available. After that you can choose airways and waypoints. Same thing with BUBIN. BUBIN is not your STAR. BUBI9C is you star. In addition, it definitely doesnt matter which direction you approach the airport regarding the runway you will land. Of course you might get the R08 if your coming from west, but more important aspect is weather for example. I also didnt understand why you are viewing approach charts of departure airport. You should check the SID charts to know first turn after T/O, altitude and speed restrictions, and such.

Enjoyed your presentation. Production values are very good. In my case I learned how to create and enter a flight plan using various services (FSFlightPlanning, SkyVector, Simbrief, and now LittleNavMap) and entering it into the Garmin X530 of the Cessna Skyhawk 172. I found the manual entry of the data to be very tedious, but of course real world pilots must know how to do it. Instead I learned how to export the flight plan to X-Plane and then import into the Garmin 530. I just now tried the same procedure with the Garmin 1000 and it worked. So maybe this method is more advanced, and rightfully not taught to a beginner, but perhaps it could be mentioned in passing as an option. So now I will watch your next part on the autopilot, which is another skill I recently learned in the Cessna. Keep up the good work.

@@aatifahmad I have a default FMC data, makes it impossible for me to get the flight plans. Any help on that you can provide or the only way out is to buy out subscriptions. Even for a simple flight from Dubai to Abudhabi i was not getting the waypoints from Simbrief to be accepted.

I tried following this step for step to fly from KLAX to KDFW and I can input the origin and destination but after that it won't let me plug anything in. It says that it can't find it. Ive tried mulitiple different origins and destinations and it just won't work for me. please help

It is due to the reason that the database of your FMS is not updated. It can be updated via Navigraph subscription for an amount

Hello i am a beginner to xplane 11 and i am trying to fly from (YSSY)-Sydney Kingsford intl airport runway 16R to (YSCB) Canberra intl airport runway 35 using the default b737-800. But every time the flight plan navigates me to the Canberra airport diagonally and not aligned with the runway and so i can't lan anywhere ,can anyone help me fix this and land on the runway.

There are multiple issues faced by people while preparing a flight plan. One of the issue can be the AIRAC cycle which can be updated from the navigraph site. Moreover, the sites for flight planning work best for European airports

The charts shown in the video are downloaded for free from Google Search. So you can also search for the charts over the Google. If they are not available for free then you have to get a subscription of Navigraph

Thank you pointing it out. You can search for the airport charts on Google. Type in the airport name EGLl (for Heathrow) and then type airport chart. You will get the desired airport chart. I have also tried adding PDF at the end of search strings in some cases. I hope this suffice your query. Thank you

I am afraid it is not possible to update a flight plan according to a specific AIRAC cycle. The SimBrief only updates the flight plan according to the latest available AIRAC cycle

I am just stuck on where to land and where to depart. KIND depart and KMCO arrival, that's my flight "plan" I just can't really figure out on the 3 runways of KIND I need to depart from. I am guessing the one that would be in direction of KMCO being it isn't near open water, but a thought of if I take that one, then that could also be the landing area from my take off end. Complications!

whenever I click find route, the routes it gives me are always short with like three to five symbols and no way point symbols. Like when you got a325 and a454 and all those other similar symbols, I am not getting those. For example, a route I got consists of HUDAD2 HUDAD PNH ZIGEE ZPLYN3. ?????

hello atif, I followed all your instructions and made a flight plan going from london heathrow to paris charles de gaulle and everything seems normal until its time for arrival wherein im met with a vector in my flight plan which doesnt line me up with the runway and instead makes me fly past the airport, i chose and ILS approach and had the right frequency for the runway but the auto pilot doesnt lign me up the with the runway. any idea why this may be?

I’m new to xplane 11 and can anyone help? I file a flight plan on the default 737-800 fms as best as I understand. However, after I take off and engage the autopilot, it always seems to fly me further away from my destination. The distance between the waypoint I should be at and my destination just keeps increasing. Is there something I’m doing wrong?

Thank you very much for the compliments. Actually your AIRAC cycle has to be updated in order to update the database of the plane. You can do this by getting the Navigraph subscription and downloading the Navigraph client to update the AIRAC cycle. Once the AIRAC cycle is updated then you can use to for a couple of months and no need to renew the Navigraph subscription on monthly basis. But if you want you can keep your subscription so that the database is always up to date

I would suggest you to first enter the flight plan that I’ve entered and practice it. Moreover, if you are making your own flight plan then can you please identify the exact point where you are stuck. Thank you

In the FMC while entering the flight path the route is entered on the right side and the waypoint to which the route is leading is entered on the right side. This is the flight path from EGLL to EDDF "L6 DVR UL9 KONAN UL607 SPI UT180 PESOV T180 UNOKO". The alphanumeric value is route and the alphabetical value is the waypoint. After entering the route press the left button in front of the blank cells and after entering the waypoint press the right button in front of the blank cells on the right. Enter all the routes and the waypoint and press execute.

Hi Atif, I also have a problem. I tried this website Simbrief you showed here. I want to go from EGLL to EGLC, I enter these codes and press "find route" but it says "Unable to generate route: Returned an empty string!". What can I do?

For EGLL to EGLC use the 27R for EGLL and 27 for EGLC. And here is the flight plan DET2F DET GODLU ELMIV RAVSA. Kindly try this and let me know if it works

But there are no numbers in the middle as you show in the route. Can you tell how am I supposed to enter the route?

Search the airport charts on Google by typing the name of the airport followed by the phrase charts. For example for Islamabad you can type Islamabad Airport Chart or OPIS Chart

Ok so this is how you are going to enter your flight plan. Go to FMS set Origin as KSEA, DEST as CYYC and SID as URVEB. On the next page the route will be T703 and the way point will be IGVEP. For Departure Runway select SIDS as SEA7 and RW34R as the runway. For arrival select IGVEP4.35L as STARS and R35LZ as runway and for TRANS set MESKA. I have made and entered this flight plan in the FMS and there is no discontinuity. So the flight plan is OK. Kindly try and it provide me your feedback. Thank you for watching my channel.

You left the Altitude to Auto in the flight plan on sim brief so does the game automatically generate the cruising altitude?

@@aatifahmad So would you just use your own altitude you want or is there something that can give you a cruising altitude? For instance you create a flight plan on FSX then click find route and that gives you an altitude of say 29000 feet to say Paris but it will give you 35000 feet if your wanting to fly to the US but you can manually adjust it if you like. I'm pretty new to flight simming I've only just mastered flight plans and IFR on FSX but I've watched your tutorials and I really like how clear you have shown people. I'm just keen to know a few little bits before I decide to buy X Plane as X Plane looks a hell of a lot more realistic but uses the more advanced FMC input for your flight plan whereas FSX will generate you one. But X Plane 11 is my next advancement. If you could just give me some tips if possible on the cruising altitude, can it be automatically generated by the game or do you have to set it and if so is there ways you need to use in order to put the correct cruising altitude in.

You can use the altitude specified by the simbrief but you can also put in your altitude. If you are entering a high altitude in the FMC in the CRZ option then you will also get an error. For long flights the altitude is 35,000 to 38,000 and for short flights you can use 28,000

is the SID always the second group of numbers/ letters in Simbrief? e.g. 11:31?

Not always. In Simbrief you will see a SID/STAR button after the flight plan. Click that button to get the SIDs and the STARs

You're welcome. You can Google the airport charts by typing the airport name and then charts. For Example London Heathrow Airport Charts

These are airport charts available online only for flight simulators. Search by typing the airport ICAO code with the phrase Airport Chart and you will get the PDF version

You can search for the airport charts on Google. For example for Lahore Airport you can search for OPLA Airport Chart PDF and you will get it. Same goes for other airports

If you know the ICAO name for the airport simply type the code and search in google you will get it. For example the ICAO for Frankfurt is EDDF so I will search for EDDF Charts and the first search result will be the airport chart. Moreover you can also try searching for Frankfurt Airport Chart and you can get the result. Thank you.
