Hey guys today I will be showing you all how to create a FLOATING BED! There aren’t many good videos explains how this is made so here you guys go!
Hope you all enjoy!
P.S. If anyone needs measurements for their project I’d be happy to help, just send a message in the comments section below!
Materials and Costs:
2x4x96” Pinewood stud: 7 @ $2.25ea
2x10x12’ large wood board: 1 @ $12.21ea
1x6x12’ Common Board: 2 @ $8.65ea
Screws: Depends on your preference but I bought #8 drywall screws. I know they break easily but there aren’t any monkeys jumping on my bed. :)
RGB Lights: Monster illuminessence 16.4-ft. LED STRIP LIGHT MOOD LIGHT KIT (Bought in store at Walmart) @ $31.26 after taxes
www.walmart.com/ip/Monster-Ill...
-----------------------------------
King size bed frame:
2, 2x10**x144”
2 pieces cut into 68” and 2 into 45” (this is the big base the bottom part of the bed. Make this however high you want to). The 10” is what I used but it you want your bed to be higher use a bigger wood. Now, the pieces that are left can be used for creating more support pieces going horizontally.
10, 2x4x96”
2 cut down to 84” for sides and 8 more (or however many you think you may need to make the structure stronger) down to 84” for the pieces going horizontally.
Lastly, 2, 1x6x14’
Cut 2 pieces down to 84”
And one into 76” (cut a bit bigger just in case so you can sand it to perfect for later)
-----------------------------------
Queen size bed frame
10, 2x4x96”
2 cut down to 84” and 8 down to 68”
2, 2x10**x144”
2 pieces cut into 68” and 2 into 29” (this is the big base the bottom part of the bed. Make this however high you want to). The 10” is what I used but it you want your bed to be higher use a bigger wood.
Lastly, 2, 1x6x14’
Cut 2 pieces down to 84”
And one into 60” (cut a bit bigger just in case so you can sand it to perfect for later)
(In order to put supports, space the 8 2x4’s going across evenly and then stick another 2x4 vertically in between. At least 2 for good support)
-----------------------------------
Full size
These are the supplies you’ll need and the sizes for each.
2, 1”x6”x12’ common board
Cut demensions will be 2, 80.50” and one really close to 54” (ps, make sure this one is a bit longer so it’ll fit between the other two real snug)
8-10, 2”x4”x12’
Ok so here’s the thing, I have 7 support pieces going across for my bed, but this can vary on bed size and your personal requirement. If you think you’ll need more support, then put more. But these will be trimmed to exactly 62” for you. (Ps they aren’t actually 2” and are 1.5 but I’ve taken that into account and did the math for you already so don’t worry about that.)
1, 2”x10”x16’
You’ll need one 2”x10”x16’ (that’s a big board) btw the 10” is actually 9” and if you want your bed to be higher or lower, change that number. My bed lays at 13” high so you’ll have to play around with that. (9” for the big board + 3.5” for the 2x4 board is approx 12.5in.)
The cut demensions should be 2 boards that are 63” in length and the last piece cut it in half or measure the last piece and divide the total length by 2 and you should get somewhere around 33”. That’s a good size and should run you well.
(You’ll end up with 4 boards, 2 that will be 2”x10”x63” and 2 more that are around 2”x10”x33”.)
The spacing for the 7-8 cross pieces is all up to you and with that you’ll be able to add more support pieces in the middle.
Hope this makes a lot of things clear for you and if you have any questions or concerns, just let me know.
-----------------------------------
Twin size bed frame
8, 2x4x96”
2 cut down to 79” and 8 down to 46”
1, 2x10x144”
2 pieces cut into 63” and 2 into 24”
Lastly, 2, 1x6x144”
Cut 2 pieces down to 79”
And one into 38”

Very nice floating bed .....i have to share this with you .....i lived in Namibia during the time of independence ...1988-1994...and occupied a rather large apartment .Needless to say i had all the space to be creative in ...and .....!!! built myself a floating king size bed ..as in your vid. I must confess i had flourescent lighting ....i doubt it these colourful lights were available at that time ...Good work fellows .....i just patted myself for my innovation ...32 years ago .
