Idea: try using 1-2 incandescent light bulbs. I made a home made dehydrator home from a box and used a 75W light bulb and it maintained 41*C constant temperature. 67% more efficient than regular dehydrators. Incandescent bulbs were considered inefficient due to the fact they were used just for lightning and lost 90% of the energy through heat -> using this heat for the fruits and vegetables and light as a bonus for the interior. If you use a fridge o, no insulation is neede, but for a box I used reflective aluminum and polistyren for the interior so the heat can be reflected back from the walls to the fruits/vegetables. I won a prize for this in a international conference and proved the energy efficiency of the home made setup ;) For the 1st version an Arduino board was used for the temperature limit and automation but proved too expensive.

Hello, greetings from Colombia, I would like to know more about your dehydrator, should I build one to dry meats, could we communicate by email?

What a great idea. I have an old refrigerator n the patio just looking to go to the landfill OR be repurposed into a, you know. Yep. Awesome idea. Thanks. I really like the external digital temperature display. That's a great addition to an awesome build. I'm definitely going to copy this for the most part, maybe cut a few corners, upgrade it a bit? Just utilize what I have laying around I wish I would have seen this right after uploaded as I could have saved a bunch of money 😁

Hey I like your creativity. You're a brilliant man. This idea birthed within a few years ago and I made a home made dehydrator. However, venturing into that reality wasn't enough. I thought I could do more and make a better and more productive dehydrator. So I thought of using refrigerators and when I saw your idea, I was motivated and encouraged to pursue the great unknown. The only thing I guess would be a struggle for me is knowing how to connect everything together. Doing the electrical part would be quite challenging. Can you please help me out when you have some time...? I'll truly appreciate every encounter...

Dear god man that is loud! Plus hairdryers occasionally melt, catch fire etc. One of the small ceramic heaters may be better /safer/ quieter. Can I suggest you adapt the shell of a microwave oven instead, as that will be all metal and no polystyrene and foam interior like a fridge. Plus they usually come with a free fan. You just need the ceramic heater then. Well done for experimenting though.

I wonder if you could have kept the compressor and all the rest and gutted the inside. resolder the compressor where the top gets hot and the back gets cold.

Was it degassed before you took it apart or did you just release the harmful refrigerant into the environment?
@TheMemeRonin
@TheMemeRonin 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah I've I got my EPA 609 certification and in the book it actually does state that refrigerant does not reach the atmosphere it dissipates into highly miniscule particles that are collected in water particles and rains back down so the ozone layer is fine and it also doesn't affect water, people, animals or plant life it's only hamful in direct contact with highy concentrated liquid or vapor form because it freezes and aborsbs oxgen
