I still appreciate the content, but I find it a little irresponsible to not mention that black lives matter with an audience greater than a million. I'm not here to start a political debate, I simply care about human rights. (So don't respond with the typical "all lives matter" or "they're just selfish thugs" or "inequality doesn't exist". I'm not gonna waste my time debating your ridiculous talking points.)

best is if you don´t even have content that involves you^^ i´m working on gaming stuff with some friends^^ so nobody cares about our setup. All we used is freeware^^ my friends use OBS to record their gaming i´m using some streaming software with a name I already forgot because it actively filters out discord and adds it as a second audio line. Nobody will see my Mic is shitty, my PC a better potato and I did not pay a single cent for any software but the games. Why? Pros don´t pay either for that shit^^

To make a backdrop, I literally went to Walmart, bought two of those three-fold posterboard things and duct taped them together, then put fabric over them. Was $15 in all. I also recently purchased a new lapel mic that plugs into my phone's headphone jack, and that made a world of difference.

Damn I gotta say the flats brought me back to my stagecraft times. We always did ours with muslin and size. It takes a little longer but makes it a lot lighter than plywood, easier to repair, cheaper, and tbh I like to break down old ones by punching into em like koolaid man! Basically you take a frame and you drape the muslin (which is really cheap fabric) around the frame and staple it down around the outside of the frame with a staple gun (make it so there’s no slack but do NOT do it really tight because it’s about to shrink and you do not wanna have an exploding thing of wood. Bad idea.) and if you’re not sure about the strength of your stapling gun, hammer the staples in with a mallet. Once it’s nice and stapled, trim the muslin around the edges to have about an inch extra of fabric to make it easier to move and nicer on the floors. Now you make what is called size (Idk if it’s spelled right this is smth I’ve only heard verbally) which varies from place to place but it’s usually smth like one part elmers glue mixed to one part water . Liberally paint the fabric with the stuff make sure to get the sides and around the corners. Leave to dry overnight. It’s a lot lighter and easier to move around than if you cover the edges with plywood and prolly cheaper too. Plus if you wanna, you can give it a good punch and rip right through and feel like Kool Aid Man.

theater tech here, stage flats are almost always made with 1x4 to reduce weight and cost. So many other things I could go into, but I mostly agree with everything here. A note for people that don't know, when Brian talks about gel, it's a special type of plastic sheet used in stage and film to change the color of lights.

@CheeseManFuu 4 жыл бұрын
They're probably using the generally awful built-in mics on laptops or phones. There's a lot of channels that talk about sound engineering, but these are the basic principles: - XLR mics (typically) reign over USB, headset, built-in mics. Condensor mics in particular give great focused audio. They require more complicated set-ups than just plugging it into your computer, needing an interface that can convert the signal from XLR to USB, and optionally an amp or mixer to help balance and boost audio. A good entry level audio setup will cost anywhere from $200-400, but it's a good enough leap in quality. A lot of broadcast studios also use either lavalier mics (the ones that clip usually on or underneath shirts) or boom mics (which are highly sensitive and focus-dependant compared to most consumer condensor mics), but those are usually extremely expensive. - Pay attention to the acoustics of your recording area; the more soft and irregularly shaped things, the less sound will echo around. If you're just doing an audio-only recording, a thick blanket draped over you and your mic will have basically no echo. If you're a little claustrophobic and also need a live video feed of yourself, having walls with a bunch of normal decorations from curtains to banners and pictures will still help a lot more than having nothing. Best case scenario is a small booth or sectioned area with really thick acoustic foam (which is wall of foam but cut into square pyramids to lower the chance of sound bouncing back and forth from the source of sound to the thing capturing sound). - Lots of post-processing is done to audio to remove artifacts. It's possible to filter stuff live with a bunch of tweaking, but for something like the built-in laptop mics, it's just putting lipstick on a pig basically. It gets deeper than this, but these are the foundations for having good audio.
@TheMagzuz
@TheMagzuz 4 жыл бұрын
@@CheeseManFuu Honestly, a decent lav mic is plenty for 80% of cases. The mic is close to the speaker, meaning the impact of the room is minimal. Once you get better than a built-in laptop/webcam mic, most of your issues will come from your surroundings (echo/reverb, noise, etc.)

I think it should be said that MR employs some excellent production people. I'm not even paid to say that. I mean they could pay me to... but it'd still be true. You all rock.

TL;DR Use soft, natural lighting coming from slightly off to the side, 4'x8' particle board/cardboard supported by 2"x4"s can make modular, reusable canvases for backgrounds, use lighting, focus/depth of field/props to draw attention to the main subject.

I work in Theatre, while this video has a lot of very useful info about lighting. Theatre and Hollywood flats are different because Theatre has a different set of needs. Theatre flats are generally built out of 1x3s with the 3inch side facing the front and back (Downstage and Upstage) of the flat. and are faced not with particle board but with Masonite or a muslin screen. this keeps them light and easy to move during a live production. here is a good diagram of the back (Upstage) side of the flat. i.pinimg.com/originals/f6/3c/10/f63c1055f4ff9c181be1cd7c78270f04.jpg
