I don't know why you don't have way more subs. I have found your Vital sound design tutorials very useful and I love the way you explain exactly why you adjust each parameter and what it does. I would love to see more Vital tutorials in the same style of teaching. I have been a subscriber for a while now. I hope your channel starts growing. Thanks very much for the content that you have posted so far.

I appreciate it! I find tutorials to be more useful when they explain the "why" instead of just the "how", so I try to do that where I can. I haven't had as much time lately to put together videos, which is probably the biggest thing slowing my channel's growth. I'm hoping to get back into it soon and see if I can get it growing faster. I'd like to put together some more vital, surge, and other tutorials soon. I've also been getting into blacksmithing lately so that would be a cool second channel, but it would be a long time before I'd become skilled enough to be able to put together a channel... There are lots of amazing channels on that topic, by the way.

Great patch, thanks for showing the sound first and amazing explanations that include the details to master the sound design. Also thanks for using Vital, it's such a powerful wonderful sounding synth for free.

Thanks, glad you found it useful! Vital is great because not only is it free, it's good too. Anybody can get it and use it, whether you're new to sound design or a pro. I like to use a lot of different synths (pigments video coming soon), but Vital is one of my favorites and I'll keep making videos for it.

Great video. Thank you. If only we could assign those harmonics purple bars to MIDI sliders...
@idlethoughtsmusic
@idlethoughtsmusic 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah, you can't assign them directly that I know of. I thought about it this when making this video, but it's not straightforward. So I went with the assumption that you know what you want ahead of time and don't want to change it while playing. You can do this to a limited extent by making your wavetables slide through several drawbar configuration, and then assigning the wavetable positions to MIDI sliders. But to do this right (using Vital), you need something like Ableton's instrument rack. Add three instances of Vital to play in parallel, and have each oscillator in Vital assigned to a single drawbar. Then, assign the MIDI sliders to the volume of each oscillator. If you're in another DAW and don't have something equivalent, you can use three copies of the same track (with each Vital oscillator set to a different drawbar), and play them at the same time. I'm sure there's an easier way to do this, but that should work if everything is synchronized and there's no weird phasing issues that happen. I haven't tried it yet though.

Well, Thank you Sir. This is by far the best Vital video for creating a Hammond Style organ. Well done.

@@idlethoughtsmusic As a former live musician, i always hated synthesizers, because, in my opinion they could only produce very ugly sounds. Till a few months i was even afraid to start and learn about them. Now with the Vital Synth i even start to like em, because they really CAN produce very beautiful sounds........as you demonstrated in this video so Thanks again.

Wow. Really really good tutorial. Love how you first explained how the Hammond Organ works and then explained what part of the organ you were simulating in every step!

Great in depth tutorial! Love that there’s history with meaning and reason included behind what is being taught, not just a “copy this” type video. Subscribed and hope to see your channel grow and gain traction!

Thanks! I think it's important to understand why you do something and not just how...not only is it more fun, but then you know how to make it your own. Thanks for your support!

Thank you for the gorgeous Tutorial! 👏👏 I very much like the way how you explain everything step by step, so I can easily switch between the video and Vital back and forth and follow along creating the sound. At first I was a bit disappointed that you don't offer the preset as download, but this way it's even better and I learn more! This was my first time I used the wavetable-editor. I still don't really understand what I'm doing, but this was a good start anyways! What I'd love to see how you would create a piano-like sound. Especially if you could elaborate a bit more why and how to use the wavetable-editor.
@idlethoughtsmusic
@idlethoughtsmusic Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I've thought about offering the presets as downloads, but they've been simple enough it's better to follow along and learn the technique. I may still release some presets in the future! I've been meaning to do another video on keys (the Korg M1 tutorial does a bassy keys sound). I'll add that to the to-do list. I also have a mini tutorial on the wavetable editor in my "tearing bass" tutorial. I should probably make a dedicated tutorial so that it's easier to find. I'd recommend you look up "additive synthesis" to learn more about how some of this works. Glad you found it useful!

@@idlethoughtsmusic 'll check out the tearing bass tutorial. What I'm most interested in is how to create more 'clean' sounds like a nice flute or piano. I assume that understanding the wavetable-editor might help, so anything in that direction would be highly appreciated!
@idlethoughtsmusic
@idlethoughtsmusic Жыл бұрын
@@wilbur913 For clean sounds, you generally want to use "smooth" waveforms. For a great tutorial on how to make a realistic flute, check out this tutorial by @Jazen Sounds. There are a lot of really good Vital tutorials on that channel. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rbyln5apsNmbqHU.html To get a nice piano sound, you need a good multi-sampled library. However, you can make some really good keys using a synth like Vital. I'm working on a Surge XT tutorial right now, but I'll look into making a more detailed wavetable editor video when I get a chance.
@wilbur913

@@idlethoughtsmusic I guess 'clean' waveforms with some comb-like filters could be something to give a try. I will explore...
@idlethoughtsmusic
@idlethoughtsmusic Жыл бұрын
Yeah, you can make some really great sounds with comb filters if they're tuned right and you keep the overall resonances (peaks in frequency) tamed. If not, you can make some really extreme sounds, depending on what you put them on...
