Wait, why do you fold up the rectangle more? Am I supposed to use the eight little ones or stop at one? Are you just demonstrating how to make it smaller or do I Have to do this before starting?

I have a small question: cutting the A4 in half three times won't change the proportion of the paper? Making 0.5/√2 instead of 1/√2? Thanks

You have compare the small side to the long one. If the lengths are 1 and √2 at the beginning, the second step gives you a √2/2 to 1 ratio, which is (√2)/(√2*√2) to 1, i.e. 1/√2 to 1, the same as 1 to √2. So each time you half the sheet, you preserve the ratio!

Nominally, A4 paper is 297mm x 210mm. But any paper which has a ratio of 1:1.414 works well. I find A7 to be about the right size.

If you cut an A4 half and then do what you did in the video it'll be a pointless lose......I practice origami for 8 years and I'm sure that if you cut the A4 half and then each part again you'll finally got the same rectangle and there will be no need to do the first step you showed,,,,, It's easier guys, and THERE"S NO LOSE!!!

He was showing how to cut a square into a 1 by root 2 piece of paper. Not all countries use A ratio papers ;)
