How to make a chemistry lab magnetic stirrer with a motor from a CD-DVD drive unit, a hard disk drive magnet and some esay materials like wood, a switch, jack connector, etc.
You only need to buy the magnetic stirrer bar, (or stir bar) i.e. on Ebay. It is not recommended to DIY the magnetic bar because the pro ones are cheap and covered with teflon, so they dont react with chemicals. goo.gl/dbXbIv or goo.gl/v7mYBL

I like the way this man made his video: dodn't cut his mistakes but just left them, so later he made it in the right way. Thank you.

I was thinking that a possible upgrade would be to be able to regulate the speed, but in the end of the video I saw that was also thought through. :) Very nice project.

Good idea, good execution. For phase 2, we need a variable speed stirrer to work with diff size containers. Oh, and for the "sensitives" out there, show alu foil over the board to shield the EMF.

I made a similar stirrer out of a cigar box but I added a pot to mine. I don't know why but after a short while my spin bar starts to tumble, I tried resetting my hdd magnet but no joy. I also tried flipping the magnet over with the same result. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks

Very nice! I started trying to make one of these about a year and a half ago, and started with basically the same things you used. I eventually shelved mine because some of my requirements weren't attainable at my skill level (variable speed with no moving parts aside from the switch and frequency knob pot, meaning a variable frequency quadrature encoder. I still don't know how to make one without rather complex circuitry.) It looks like you ran into some of the same problems that I did with this form, like the permanent magnet causing problems for the Hall effect sensor in the motor. Anyway, I did make a SketchUp model for a housing, and even a cardboard sample. If you like (or anyone else, of course) I can provide the SketchUp model. Cheers.

@@elvimaesalinas7971 I looked but couldn't find it. :( I think I lost the model in a HD failure a few years ago. :( It wasn't very complicated, just the general shape of most magnetic stirrers with power switch, control knobs, housing for the electronics and the magnet coils.

ty. as other have said, you seem to care about the viewers time and concentration, a lot of vid makers seem to think their ass should be worhiped for providing info even though we watch a step get repeated 20x and hear about their day for 10min b4 the video. BTW lab/bench power supplies that can go from like 0.1v to 35v and limitable 0-4 or 5 amps are down to around 100 usd on ebay or amazon. you seem like the type that might benefit from having one.

- but you'll need a pcb, a pot, a mosfet, 555 and components and on top of that the 12v transformer. - While his works just as good, though it wont be able to reach super low speeds, and only uses a variable transformer. - A good point inbetween would be a lm317 with a pot, Should work quite well. - And another even simpler, which i use in my pc is a small heatsink, a irfz44 and a 15 turn 100k trimpot. It's uberlly crappy, the tempco is horrible but once it warms up it stays quite stable. I use it to control a noisy 6W fan. The trimpot works as a voltage divider conected to the gate, so in the ciruit, it just looks like a high wattage pot. That mosfet has low Ron and has a good diode built in. It should have no problem with that motor. And although the temperature coefficient is horrible, it can go from rail to rail and is really simple. I didnt even use a pcb, i just press fitted the trimpot inbeteen the heatsink fins and then just soldered everything together and then heatshrink. The only problem that it might have is that my pc has regulated 12V, while those transformers might read 17v without load which could mess up the mosfet gate. A 10k and a zener should fix it. Well, there's a few ideas :P
@mattibboss
@mattibboss 10 жыл бұрын
Laharl Krichevskoy you don't need pcb for few components Do classic deadbug-style 12 v psu has everybody laying around Sure you need few caps diode and maybe small low power transistor Or replace that all crap and use high power one then ne555 mosfet pot few caps and resistors and you'r done (or maybe even better circuit) If you don't use pcb and solder anything deadbug-style with art and creativity it will look awesome Your idea is good too but complicated to some young players I preffer classic
