How to Make a Laser Pointer

How to make a laser pointer for less than $2. The only things I had to buy were some button cell batteries, and the laser diode. I got them both off eBay for very cheap. With this method, you can buy a very powerful laser diode and make a burning laser for a couple bucks.

Doesn't the laser diode try to overheat? I would try adding a metal heat sink instead if a plastic cap to hold the diode. A lot of the pointers I've seen say, "Do Not operate for more than 30 sec" so I'm thinking a pulsed circuit with a low duty cycle might be worth considering.

Now what if I replaced the rest of the chapstick vial except for the cap with an 18650 battery and got a more powerful laser diode so it would be brighter (potentially a different color) and last longer, and be rechargeable, can I get a tutorial on that

Yes, but personally, I'd use hot glue or solder. Electrical tape's adhesive sometimes leaks/melts, which leaves adhesive spilled out and sticky.

Dude it didn't work when I put laser diode and that wire is connected to this battery🔋. I connect the positive to positive and negative to negative. But it didn't work so I connect opposite. But still didn't work. Can you help me?

Hey man, it should work if connected the right way. Additionally make sure you're supplying the voltage and current values required by your diode. If this is all working there could either be a loose connection/broken wire, or a busted diode.. hope this helps
