Here in 2020, holsters have gotten so ridiculous in price, even factory stamped out ones that learning yourself is the way to go and I appreciate you taking the time to try and help us newbs.

I sold the gun and holster awhile back. Thanks for sharing your skill and advice with the rest of us out here.

Poking around looking to make a holster for my Hi-Point .45. I have a couple of decent ones, but there is something well satisfying about making your own stuff.

V Star 1300 Adventures yes there is. You might want to try looking at my newer video on making and using a crude holster press. It shows a little bit easier method to get the molding done to your pistol.

That was my very first pistol. Be sure you measure and cut for the clearance of the rear sight , i broke mine off using cheap holsters.

I wouldnt cover the mag release, it might eject the mag when presenting your firearm. Be safe.

Question would it be better to make front piece bigger than back so you can create a nice pocket? I feel if both are the same size it will be difficult to have enough room for pocket.

You can certainly do it that way. I have, a time or two. I like the results I get this way more, but the maker can do it the other way for sure.

9-10 oz vegetable tanned leather.

Budget Guns and Gear Review Sir, may I know where you buy your leather? Is it ok to use the real pistol to form the leather?

Lately, I've been buying from Weaver Leather. Their Herman Oak stuff is GREAT. And yes, it's perfectly OK to use a real (UNLOADED) pistol. Just wrap it in saran wrap to protect the pistol from water.

What did you dip it in to harden and protect the leather?

South Rus that's a 50/50 mixture of paraffin and beeswax.
