Hi Zed . I have mentioned before that you seem to have a talent for seeking out people who are both top talented craftsmen and top talented teachers. After enjoying your videos for several years, it occurs to me that much of what you do with the camera and the interview is also top of the line and the long format has really become cultural preservation. All of which is a long winded intro to the idea that you and your subjects are at a level that English Heritage really ought to consider some grant money for you to put your films together in a public catalog. With reshoots where you deem reasonable to make it more of a teaching and documentary resource in addition to the entertainment and casual learning that your films are already excellent at. I am sure there are others that you would like to document but lack the budget for travel and editing or need introductions to. Such funds might also allow you to pursue some more academic/historical and archeological avenues that are currently not in your catalog. I am a rabid consumer of documentary film so I have some perspective and yours is definitely good enough to do justice to your subjects. Think on it and know that I am not alone in my opinion of your work. I think in part it is the reason you have been able to get so many talented people to share with you. Good luck and good health.

As always James I sincerely ppreciate your kind words and for the ongoing support. I have actually considered grant money in hte past but alas the process is really long and unfortunately don't have the time for all the admin involved. Also this whole pandemic has really placed a spanner in the works for a lot of prohects moving forward I had planned ~Peace~

High Zed, and Lee, hope your both well. If i may when you are carving using a ruffing /sloyd knife, would you use the same knife for taking out /off the facet lines ? Or would you use a different style of knife ? Basically in other words do I need to buy a separate knife for this function ? Having said that, my results have not been to bad I don't think. Look forward to hearing what views you may have. Cheers Les.
@Zedoutdoors
@Zedoutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Les ideally you would use the same knife, the caveat being you sharpen it well prior to working on the facets. Saying that if you prefer to have a dedicated roughing knife then by all means get another knife (Mora 106 for example) that you keep incredibly well sharpened for the finer work. Hope that works for you and best of luck! ~Peace~

You definitely want veg tan as other tanning processes mean that you might not be able to die the leather, form it to your knife or use stamps for decoration. There are other forms of leather that will allow some tanning and/or dieing, but veg tan is your best friend here. Supply wise, you can buy small sections on ebay, so about enough for 1 knife. If you have 2 or more knives, I use Tandy Leather and for about twice what you'd pay on ebay you'll get a piece of leather a LOT bigger...... probably about 4 to 6 times the size. They have stores in Europe and the USA and probably other places and their customer care and advice is amazing. They also sell all the leather tools, fixings, thread, etc., you will ever need. ........ and no, sadly I don't work for Tandy. If they had a staff discount scheme I would be in heaven!!!! 😂 This wad a great video, so thanks for your time 👍

Hi Glen I sincerely appreciate your insights as it was Tandy that Lee also got all his tools, materials, etc from. It's a shame that they closed down their Manchester retail store but thankfully we can still order online. Will take note on the Ebay side of things too, always hit and miss with that platform! ~Peace~

@@Zedoutdoors I wasn't thinking about the Tandy store, in the UK, when I wrote the last bit but you reminded me of something really random and a little funny. When that store was open, I ordered some leather with 2 day shipping and I thought that it was coming from the UK store....... nope!!! It came from Texas!!! In 2 days! The must have run put in the UK AND Europe stores 😂👍👍

Hello Zed, I make stuff out of logs, tables bowls spoons a headphones stand etc mostly for myself am quite introverted , so how do we intros go about "chatting" about what we do ? I am very lucky in so far as I can explore my wooden fixations during November to march ( the swallows are out of my work space at these times) but how do I connect with other " makers" to explore the possibility of conversation or collaboration ? Cheers oh and I loved the Halloween skit you did , cheers Deb .
