I wish I had a dollar for every time I've gotten to a writing retreat or even the coffee shop to realize I've left my plot notes at home. If I had something like this I can keep in my purse, that would be perfect!!

The words "lightweight" and "portable" in the title of this video caught my eye. I love this idea! I've been keeping all my series notes in an A5 slim traveler's notebook, but even that gets heavy and awkward to carry around. This would be a much easier way to carry only the notes I need for my current WIP. Definitely trying it! Thanks for sharing! :)

This is an excellent video. Incredibly useful and such an intelligent process that is streamlined and repeatable. I just completed GMC by Ms. Dixon and I have several more writing books on my desk to read. I've got seven (7) in total. I can clearly see that you've internalized and distilled the information down beautifully, from the books you've read on writing and made the process your own. It is very generous and kind of you to share your experience and trial and errors and final process with us. I know that it was hard won, getting your process just right. I was feeling overwhelmed with the information that I am starting to learn about plot, structure and character arc. And I was not sure how to use it, and apply it from a practical standpoint. With your video, things have begun to fall elegantly into place, like a master craftsman - built, piece of exquisite, antique furniture. This video is like gold, a true treasure. In fact, YOU are literally sitting upon a gold mine. You could teach courses, coach individuals and write a book about your process, creating several additional income streams for yourself. Now, I am very clear on how I can use the information that I have read thus far, in a functional and practical way. Instead of being fearful and anxious, I am even more excited about the writing project I plan to undertake. This sense of purpose and peace are directly because of this video. I trust what you say. I find you to be genuine and authentic and transparent as it relates to the information you convey and the way you impart it. I can't thank you enough!

I've been doing something similar to this for many years. I like to go as electronic free as I can when I'm drafting, so I would create character sheets and a checkbox outline of my novel in a Jr. Arc notebook. Then it would be this and my Alphasmart at the coffeehouse. No outlets required. :) I love your tips on color coding and how you organized your booklets. They are very portable and easy to create. I think I'll implement some of your color-coding ideas into my next ARC booklet.

Ooh, great idea! I already use 5x8 index cards for my dictation notes, but I've been keeping them in a separate ring binder. This is so much better because then I can slip them into my A5 TN for when I'm carrying my whole life around. Thanks!

Could you explain what is a "Thread" in detail? Also, "Questions" are what your readers ask and what you feel you need to further clarify for them in the next book? I wasn't sure about those two things. Thank you!
@HeartBreathings
@HeartBreathings 6 жыл бұрын
A thread is just like a story thread that's been woven throughout the story. Like what happened to Harper's mother? That's a thread that isn't necessarily the main plot of the book, but it's something that's come up a lot. There are lots of threads in each book, and with a series, it's important to keep track of them so that you make sure to keep touching on them or to not let them go completely. Questions is just things I believe my readers will be asking when they finish the previous book. I make sure to think from the reader perspective to find unanswered questions, which are also often story threads, so that I make sure to answer them or move them further along to the next story point, if that makes sense!

You can find index cards of different weights and sizes for lots of different prices! Just look around and find ones that fit your budget. Like here's a set of 5x8 that are only $5 just might be thinner. www.amazon.com/Oxford-Blank-Index-Cards-50/dp/B00006IFD6/

I love your videos! But, and i know unsolicited critique is annoying af but like. . . as a view who wants to see more of your content, just as viewer feedback. Have you considered scripting your videos? And i know you already put a lot of effort into your videos and already have a plan for each one but what i mean is like, having speech cue cards off screen? Or even pre-recording your video and doing a voice over for easier editing? It's just i tend to find myself speeding up your videos a lot because of short pauses that naturally occur in speech or you re-hashing information. I find when i watch pre=recoded videos with a voice over, things are usually more concise? Do as you please but these are just my personal thoughts and expernce when watching your videos, hope to see more! ps, i love your stationary videos!
