How to Make a Lightweight Sliding Barn Door

We built a rustic sliding barn door for our RV bathroom a few years ago, but receive a lot of questions about it, so here’s a quick reference to how we created it.
This door is fairly lightweight and so is the DIY sliding barn door hardware. Back when we created this project, sliding barn door hardware kits were either expensive or heavy, so the DIY route was a great option. With that said, you can now find a ton of options, especially on Amazon. We hope this video will help give you some ideas or at the very least guide you in deciding if this is the right option for you and your situation. We plan to update the bathroom door next week with actual barn door hardware, so keep an eye out on how the two options compare.
For the hardware supplies, you can find most of it at your local hardware store such as Lowe’s or Home Depot. I’ll link to some of the more rustic hardware we purchased from Amazon below. Just FYI I saw another youtuber use some strong magnets to keep the door in place. I thought that was pretty ingenius.

ANY THOUGHT ON HOW TO USE A BI-FOLD DOOR W/ YOUR HARDWARE?

Hi guys, question. I am making the door and the light fixtures you have. For the hallway fixture, I was wondering what size arms you used. I know for the one in the living room you used 10 inches, but if you could please let me know what size do I can order them. Thank you!

Darn. No answer? Haha well I ordered 3 of the 5 inch hollow pipes for the hallway light fixture. Hope it works out.

Why copper pipe? I’ve done two of these and I used emt pipe which is a lot cheaper. The one thing I have issue with is the sqeeky noise of the door going open and close

haha Don't be so hard on yourself we hadn't done any of this till we dove right in. But I have to say, I say the same thing to Katie all the time because of the awesome ideas she comes up with :)
