How to Make a Mala Bracelet

Supplies to Make a Mala Bracelet:
54 Gemstone Beads (It can be any kind - we used African Turquoise)
1 Larger Gemstone Bead (Guru Bead) We used Snow Quartz
Embroidery Thread
Stretch Magic Plastic Stretchable Thread
E6000
Tools:
Scissors
Helpful: A Ruler to Measure the Length of the Thread
Follow the Video Tutorial for all the steps! Here's a quick summary.
Cut around 24 inches of Stretch Magic stretchable jewelry thread. Before you add the beads give it a little tug. Next gather your 54 beads and string them on the thread.
Tie a balloon knot.
Add the guru bead and then tie another balloon knot on the other side of the guru bead to hold it into place.
Once all your beads are in place, the tassel comes next! Wrap embroidery thread around a small piece a cardboard at least 10 - 20 times. How many times will determine how thick your tassel is. Now cut the embroidery thread on one side and wrap the whole thing with a bit of extra thread.
We added a dab of glue just to be sure this tassel is nice and strong!
To attach the tassel, use another balloon know in your Stretch Magic Thread.

I like Wrist malas (bracelets) and your's contains 21 beads plus a "Guru" bead which is correct, I don't understand why your written instructions say "thread your 54 beads" where did 54 come frkm???

108 is the length of a traditional mala. The number has a special meaning. 54 is half of that, thus is commonly used in traditional mala making. For most normal sized adults, if using a 4-8mm bead size (which is the most common size) 21 beads will fit around the wrist comfortably. So if you are making a mala bracelet for style and not using it with your meditation practice, try using around 21 beads.

54 beads for a braclet? It doesn't look like there are 54 beads on the one in the video. Help?

Annie - traditionally a mala would have 108 beads for a full sized mala or 54 beads for a bracelet. For 54 beads it will definitely wrap around the wrist several times. But you can also get creative with it!

Great question! Any size between 4 - 8 mm is the most common. But you can use whatever you like, it will just mean you need more or less beads depending on the size.
