Made this whip without a loaded core once, and it still cracked really well. Just use ungutted cord for the core.

This is a interesting concept. It be perfect for indoor use like if it's stormy outside and you wouldn't want to do whip cracking out there or something like that. Glad someone came up with this whip. Good job. 👍👏👏👏

To anyone reading this in 2022, 6ft ended up being WAY too short for me for each strand. Use longer ones for this project. Also, it would be a good idea to cut two of those strands at least 4-5in shorter, because they'll be dropped pretty early in the build, and that'll save you guys some cord.

Love the video. Very informative. Music is good to. I do have a question, though, to time frame 11:30 min. You mention that when we reach the 15” mark then we should drop a couple of strands. And on the video you have them placed next to the core. Unfortunately, after I fill up part of 17” core it shrinks down to 14”. Is the 15” mark before or after the BBs are loaded?
@thunderclapwhips
@thunderclapwhips 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks I’m glad you liked it. Paracord always shrinks a bit when filled with bbs. How much can depend on the brand of paracord. I would try cutting a slightly longer core strand of paracord to get the extra needed length.

I used to make whips out of wire in high school and wrap chord in with the wires... Yeah I was a fucked up kid those things were actually dangerous they were heavy but thin and the fact I weaved the wires together made for one deadly whip. It would easily dent a car or even smash a window. I could do full on mini attack swings and everything it was fun but if you hit yourself... yeah it hurt... A LOT

Hey Garret :) Great tutorial......Listen, hopefully not a stupid question: 'Shot-loaded' I'm guessing originally that was shotgun shot? BBs are steel, magnetic ( for whatever that's worth), and much lighter than lead shot. I get the convenience of using BBs......do you think lead shot is worth the extra effort, or is there no real benefit to using lead shot? Going to be taking orders anytime soon? We're waiting......
@eternalfire9009
@eternalfire9009 5 жыл бұрын
Lead shot has a tendancy to have sharp points and edges that can fray the fibers over time, as well as have the nasty habit of creating microdust that can work it's way out of the whip. Overall, there is little difference in weight between lead and steel in the amounts used in the in the "shot bag" of any but the longest whips.

Based on the video I'd say it's 550 parachute cord (3 colors, the length you can add up from the vid), some 5 or 6 mm steel bb-s (a.k.a. slingshot ammo or ball bearing inserts), a piece 4-5oz chorme tan leather, artificial sinew and some nails to secure the knot foundation. I'd also throw in a good 20oz of parrafin wax (easiest to buy in cadle form) for waxing the whip. If you want any more details head over to instructables there are plenty of paracord whip tutorials there, I'm sure you'll find everything you need ;)

1 hour.... right. I was able to do everything you're willing to demonstrate in about half an hour. Now I've looked up everything there is to see about the turks head knot and I'm seven days into failing at it. I'm glad I never tried to be a sailor cause I can promise you this. When i die I will have tied absolutely zero turks head knots. I'm not even in the least bit interested in wanting to learn how anymore. Is there any alternative way to finish this guy off. I'm about to try just wrapping the leather in athletic tape and just start my overlay from a multi strand diamond knot tied at the end. I jumped right in to this thing after watching the video thinking I had the skill to pull this thing off and I should've continued my research to the turks head before starting cause. F. U. I'll cut my hand off and draw pictures with my blood before I even consider attempting that mofo again😂😂😂😂

It is very difficult to plait too tightly. A whip should start out stiff so when is breaks in it is not a wet noodle. I would guess you have some other problem. Yeah until you do it for a while and get used to it making whips is hard on your hands.
