Ģreat idea, thank you. It would be nice to have a tutorial that shows how to sew the inside layer. I know how to, but there are many people who don't. I would use a strong interfacing instead of fun foam so I can sew all seams instead of gluing
@lindaisrael

Thank you, Sigrid. The glue was just to hold it while it was sewn. I used fun foam so that it would have body but be light and flexible. :) Thank you for watching. :)

Great tutorial but I'm confused about cutting the interfacing and flipping the fabric. Can you explain more? What happens to the slit? Thanks!
@lindaisrael
@lindaisrael 6 жыл бұрын
Hello, Loir. Have you ever made a pillow? With the right sides together and sew around the edges. But since I used interfacing I could cut a small hole, sew and flip. The hole in the interfacing would be on the inside of the pocket and if I used the iron on interfacing it would fuse to the fabric. Thus making a nice clean pocket. that was all. :) You could do it other ways, just like making a paper pocket for a journal even. ;) Hope that helps explain it better. :) Thanks for your question and thanks for watching.

Hi Linda!! First of all I love your videos and talent. I’m in the process of following this video and making this cover. I am to the point of the inside cover and I’m confused on the way I’m soposed to sew the interfacing in. I know it’s simple and I’m over thinking it. Can you explain it to me? Do I sew my pocket at the same time?
@lindaisrael
@lindaisrael 4 жыл бұрын
Hello, Dana. Thank you so much. Okay for the interfacing, You want the fusible side to be on the outside while you sew, then cut a slit in it and pull it inside out (like making a pillow) so that the fusible side is now inside so it gives your inside cover a finished edge. Do the pocket first sew wrong side interfacing to right side of the fabric around the outside edge, then turn right side out, attach to the bottom portion of your inside cover with pins, Now sew the inside cover the same as the pocket, Wrong side interfacing to right side fabric, cut a slit in the interfacing and turn right side out. Finger press at first to get the edges smooth then iron the whole inside piece. Hope that makes sense. Then you can sew the pocket into place on the inside of the cover. Feel free to message me on Facebook facebook.com/LindaIsrael/# with photos of where you are and I can take a look to guide you. :)

Oh cool, I may use this idea on my sketchbook insert for my Traveler's Journal. I wonder, though, my machine gums up when I sew through tape, do you find that, also? I have an iron on adhesive tape I think I may use instead, just to be sure =) I find that, when I am using a hole puncher in this way it helps to have a very sturdy cardboard box, like the kind Sam's gives you, to hammer on. I use my mat underneath so I don't hammer into my table, though. Great video, thank you and I LOVE the look of the cover.

Linda, Since I'm using the ATG gun that tape is thinner and I've not had any issues with it sticking to the needle. I only put enough down to hold the fabric in place. You could also use an old school glue stick to hold the fabric in place. Handy to have old boxes around. I have a stack of cardboard that I pull from when I need something like that. ;) Thank you for watching and for leaving a comment. Have fun making a cover for your sketchbook insert. :)

Does the ATC mess up your needle or leave it sticky? is there a glue stick that will work? I love your videos-this one is perfect for gifts!
@lindaisrael
@lindaisrael 6 жыл бұрын
I didn't have any issues with the needle getting sticky. But if it had I just use alcohol to wipe it down and keep going. Glue stick won't stick to the fun foam. The ATG tape seems to work the best in this situation.:) Oh yes I agree would make great gifts. I made a few for friends. :) Thanks so much for watching.

Okay understood. So For the supplies, I can make up a kit for about $12.00 including shipping. Or you can buy a completed cover for $22 I have the embroidered one in my shop. Did you have a fabric choice you want for the cover?

Not sure I understand your question. So do you want a kit that includes the fabric, fun foam, grommets and the cord to make your own? Just pre cut and ready to go?
