About this video: Making a modded Minecraft server is a great way to enjoy all that modded Minecraft has to offer by playing with your friends. This is great because many mods are better when playing with other people!
The first step of learning how to make a modded Minecraft server is downloading Forge. For this modded server, we will be using Minecraft Forge because it is the most popular mod loader for Minecraft. However, there are other mod loaders out there such as Fabric or NeoForge.
In the description above, you will find a link to download Forge. This is actually our complete guide on install Forge locally. This must be done by you and every person who joins the server, so it’s a great tutorial to have. On this page, click the “Download Forge” button to go to Forge’s official download page.
On this page, select the Forge version you want on the left-hand side and click “Installer”. This will take you to a page where you will want to wait about 10 seconds and click a red “Skip” button in the top right. When you do, Forge will start downloading.
First open up the Forge installer with Java, you can find links to download Java in the description above if you don’t have it, and click “Install Client” and click “Okay” to install Forge for your local game. Next, create a “Minecraft Modded Server” folder on your desktop.
Then, open the Forge Installer again, and click “Install Server”. A red box will appear. Click the three dots in the red box and locate the “Minecraft Modded Server” folder you created and select it. Then, click “Okay”. The Forge server files will now install.
Once they are finished, open the modded Minecraft server folder on your desktop. Here, you will see a “run” Windows Batch File. Double-click this and the server will try to start, but it will fail. You should now have an “eula.txt” file. Open this and change “eula=false” to “eula=true” assuming you agree to the Minecraft EULA. Save the file.
Now, double-click the run.bat file again, and your modded Minecraft server will now start! At this point, you can join the server by playing Minecraft with Forge and joining with the IP “localhost”. However, in order to play modded Minecraft with your friends, you will need to port forward the port 25565 on the TCP and UDP protocols. We have an in-depth guide on this in the description above.
As far as adding mods to your Minecraft server, this can be done by downloading mods for the Minecraft version you installed Forge for and adding them to the “mods” folder on your server. You will also need to add the mods to your local mods folder in your .minecraft folder as will every single person who joins the server.
When running a modded Minecraft server, every mod needs to be on the server and installed locally in the mods folder for every single person joining the server.

Just found an issue that the forge server cant run with the tree chopper waypoint mods that use collective and balm saying kei file fails to load

I'm hesitant to use SimpleGame Hosting. I tried to set up a modded server for myself and friends, but non of them ere able to join. Spent over an hour trying to get it to work. Even the support guy couldn't help. The server only ever allowed one person on at a time for some reason. I've since closed the server down.

Hi! I have a question i'm building a lot of buildings in my litemetica 1.20.4 creative world but if 1.21.1 is out i want to play that version. so my question is can i paste a build out of a 1.20 version world to a future version of the game?

That doesn't really have to do with this video, but if you update the litematica mod to 1.21.1 in the future, and the blocks used in the build haven't changed since the update, it should still work to port your build folders to the new version of litematica.

downloading 1.16.5 Forge and opening the folder after installing server, doesnt bring up run.bat, it brings up minecraft.server.1.16.5.jar, is that the same because when i click it after changing EULA to true, it starts the server like normal.

idk why, but for some reason when i open the file i made after ive stalled the server. the only thing that shows up us "libraries" "forge- 1.16.5-36.34.jar" and minecraft_server.1.16.5.jar" the "run.bat" file isnt there. and when i try to make one it says that "this app cant run on you PC" can i get some help here?

In my folder I dont have all of the same files that you do. I followed your steps multiple times and im not sure why i dont. The server doesnt even try to start it just fails. When i try to press a key to continue i dont get the eula file. When I open the run.bat file this is what it says, "Error: Could not find or load main class @user_jvm_args.txt Press any ke to continue . . ." Im not sure what i did wrong

If anyone can just load modded minecraft and play modpacks from the default minecraft launcher then why are there so many different launchers people try to use? This is about the 8th tutorial I've watched that just doesn't work, is unclear, is skipping apparent steps,, or even makes sense as to how all these launchers, server files, mods, etc even work together.

Hi, I am getting an error when I am using Optifine, Fabric API, OptiFabric, and Replay Mod. Shouldn't I use them together or what, please let me know.

Those are all local mods and wouldn’t go on the server. I don’t think OptiFine works with the Replay Mod in general though. Instead use Sodium and Iris Shaders.

@@TheBreakdownXYZI mostly use Connected Glass and Better Leaves Resource Packs. So, if I wish to use Replay mod and Optifine, do I have to switch between Optifine Loader and Fabric Loader?🤔🤔🤔

@@user-nk6in4ob7d No, Optifine is not recommended for newer versions of Minecraft, as it's closed-source and incompatible with a lot of mods. Use Sodium and iris Shaders so you can continue using Connected Glass and similar resource packs WITH Replay Mod.

That is still the case. Everyone who joins the server will need the mods that are on the server installed locally as well.

hey, if you still haven't resolved the issue, make sure that you try to run the server file first. When it's run through java, it creates the EULA.txt file.
