How to Make a Modern Mantel Clock

On this episode I’m building a Modern Mantel Clock for the #RocklerBentWoodChallenge put on by the Modern Maker Podcast and Rockler Woodworking. To bend the wood, I used a technique called kerf cuts in which you cut almost all the way through the wood but leave just enough to still hold everything together. This was my first time doing this technique and I learned a lot along the way and I hope you do too.

Also, the way you talk, the way your voice sounds, and the type of music you use in between make the videos really pleasurable to watch, at least for me. I thoroughly enjoyed your video, especiallly the design. I fully believe I will make something off your design for my own use. Several thoughts, comments, ideas, and questions. 1. Why not crisscross the center plate clock mount previous to cutting to determine actual centerpoint? 2. Considering that the center circle (approx. 12" diameter) is edge covered with packing tape to prevent adhesion to the epoxy, wouldn't it be feasible to inject epoxy in the voids with an underlying piece of scrap wood, also taped, underneath and clamped vertically, while the clock frame is still in the clamps/binder? Your thoughts? 3. Did integration of the epoxy into th endgrain of surrounding surfaces pose a problem? Will sealing them prior to epoxy application solve this? Thank you for the design and any response you may have.
@nbalbano
@nbalbano 4 жыл бұрын
If you aligned the center of the clock with the outer circle, you could have colored some of the epoxy grooves differently to mark the hours not that it's necessary. Hmmmm
