Thanks for your comments. The main difference between lip oil and lip gloss is that lip gloss is thicker than lip oil. Also the ingredients are different. Lip oil contains only oils whereas lip gloss contains glycerin and cera bellina these ingredients thicken the product.

How did it go? Is there anything you'd do differently? Do you think it would have a better "feel" using a gelling agent (such as Sucragel or Sopragel)?

Hi, yes you can use beeswax. We haven't tested the recipe using beeswax so I tell you how much you will need. I suggest you experiment with different amounts until you get the consistency you want. You could start with 2% beeswax and see how that turns out. Then increase or decrease by 0.5% until you get the desired consistency. You'll also need to increase your castor oil by the same % you reduce the cera bellina as the formula must always total 100%.eg. if you use 2% beeswax, increase the amount of castor oil in the recipe by 3% and so on.

No, if you use cera alba it will harden too much. Cera bellina thickens the liquid into a gel like consistency. Cera alba is used for hardening lip balm. The second ingredient is cera bellina. It's a derivative of beeswax, it gives the product a smooth gel-like texture. There are two types of pigments botanical and mineral. The colour of botanical pigments is not stable, it changes with the pH of a product or when it oxidizes. We always use mineral pigments because they are reliable, easy to use and very stable. Thanks for your question. We used Geogard 221 (INCI: Benzyl Alcohol, Dehydroacetic acid), to ensure no microbial contamination occurs during product use. The preservative has been added as a precaution; as this product does not contain water you could omit it if you prefer.

Hi. Best not to use a microwave as it heats ingredients to a high temperature. It's best to use a bain marie, that means warming up a little water in a pot, on the hob. Put the ingredients container in the warm water until they melt.

Hi, thanks for your question. We added the preservative as a precaution; to ensure no microbial contamination occurs during product use. But as this product does not contain water you could omit the preservative if you prefer. The amount of preservatives you add depends on the preservative you are using. It's best to follow your supplier's recommendations. In this case, we used Geogard 221. Typical recommended use level is 0.2-1%. So if you were using it at 1%, you'd calculate 1% of 500ml, which is 5ml.

The ingredients it contains sit on top of the lips and absorb slowly into the skin therefore creating a glossy look on the lips.

@@Shizuka_vlogs non-sticky lip gloss formulas exist! That's why I asked. The classic 90s formulas tend to be super sticky, but more modern, oil-based formulas aren't always.
