A few recommendations: 1st - Edit the images before printing to change the tiny side flap's position. As is, whenever you look at it from the front, you'll see where the box was "glued" together, and that was not the case on the original boxes. It should be on right side of the rear. 2nd - Use a blunt object to score the folds, something like a thick BIC pen (without ink). That way the radious of the "bend" will be larger, and the ink won't crack as much. 3rd - It's good practice to only score the smallest part of the top flap with the box fully assembled. Sometimes using the side flaps as guides will result in the wrong size. This is critical on SNES boxes. 4th - The little cuts on the flap, in the original boxes, are actually a tiny L. Because that's hard to replicate, I usually just cut a rectangle of 3mm x 1mm to allow the side flaps to notch in those gaps. 5th - Take it easy and have fun. Usually these boxes look great on the shelves :)

I recently made my first NES game boxes and took it one step further. I figured out how to make the inner tray that the cartridge sits in so it doesn't just flop around inside the box. I couldn't find any templates for that so I just had to figure it out on my own.

Good work fella. I’ve seen some people use polystyrene strips to fill the space in the box. I wonder why Nintendo went for a much bigger box than needed but they did the same with SNES and gameboy and n64. Yet anything else now would have just been wired. Thanks for watching.

Can you tell us how much the print job costed per box? Sorry if you mentioned in the video and I missed it. I've heard 1-3 euros but I can't imagine a print shop in the US doing it for that cheap. Did you have to supply the glossy A3 (300g?) to them, Or did the print shop supply it? If you do it at home, any tips for what kind of printer is needed? And last, do you know anything about how the original boxes were manufactured - printing on some sticker type sheet, then laying it over a gray colored cardboard is it? Is this practical for the common man?

great work. One Q: once you finish, does looks like the finish of the real box? I mean, those type of comercial boxes looks as if they have a final coating or thin film on top of the printing (sorry here, not an expert on this matter). Is that the case, did they apply a thin film after printing or can you get the same result with just top quality paper? thanks!!!

+Mint Blais Hi the print shop use 350gsm card and the printer is a colour laser but inkjet and glossy gives a better finish if you ask me. Some people on comments have said use glossy sticky paper and stick onto card after.

Can you do this but with genesis games?
@Letstalkretro

Rodrigo Romero hi because Genesis games came in plastic boxes you can get the artwork and print your own sleeves no problem.

@@Letstalkretro yes i've seen many of them, but i wanted to do boxes like the ones in your video because first, i can't buy clamshell boxes in my country except if i buy them in a bulk of 25 pieces and they are very expensive (like 125 dollars plus taxes on the argentine customs) and secondly it Will be much cheaper this way. Plus i haven't seen any tutorial doing this boxes if not is done with NES N64 SNES catridges.

Rodrigo Romero AliExpress do poor quality replacements but your best bet is to buy all the cheapest sports games you can and use the cases.

What dimensions do these get printed in from photoshop, it said width 10'' length 8'' and they look like baby boxes, the cartridge wont even fit, can somebody please give the right dimensions before I waste anymore ink ?
@Letstalkretro
@Letstalkretro 7 жыл бұрын
Hi the designs are all actual size. When you print or get them printed you must not use scale to fit etc.

I know I am risking making myself sound and look really stupid, but where would I find their *templates* section? All I can find is box art for what is already out there. Im trying to make myself a custom River City Ransom 3 snes retail box.

Daniel JZ don’t worry. I will take a look when I’m home from work and sort something. I can always email you one if you like or you could download a box that has the style you want to use and just paste your artwork over the top. Will do my best to help.

So let’s say I have original boxes... how much are they worth? Cuz literally nobody has them. I imagine they are worth more than the game itself at this point

what paper are you using to make this box?
@Letstalkretro
@Letstalkretro 7 жыл бұрын
mk l hi the paper is 350gsm card. Some on here say print to glossy sticky paper then stick that onto card but have never tried. You can also use 350gsm photo paper. Not all printers can take think card. My canon just about manages it. If it feeds from the rear you should have less hassle. Or print shop may be? If you have one.
