Just so you know: a meter is about 39 inches, which is a yard and three inches. So unless you’re using a large number (10 m is about 11 yds) the m to yds will be about the same (2 m is going to be almost 2 yds)

@@pheebear You're welcome! The imperial system is unnecessarily confusing. :(
@ABC1701A2 жыл бұрын
As a general rule of thumb I use 10" = 0.25m, 20" = 0.5m and so on. Not exact but an easy conversion to do especially as some videos use imperial and others use metric. This way I can easily convert in my mind. 1.5m is roughly 60" by the way.

@@pheebear aaaaa thank youu! also i have a question - how do i make space for seam allowance? should i just like... add a bit to each fabric piece?
@pheebear2 жыл бұрын
@@pepadear4962 a seam allowance is about 1.5cm or perhaps an inch? So make each piece that much bigger than you need it. Also the great thing about peasant blouses is that they are not super fitted, so don’t be afraid to make things bigger than you think. You can always take it in later!

This was very helpful, thanks for sharing your tutorial! Would you be able to give me an idea of how you did the sleeves on the dark blue example from the end of the video? Is it done with elastic?
@pheebear3 жыл бұрын
The sleeves on the dark blue dress at the end was done with elastic and a narrow strip of fabric (for each sleeve). I hemmed the sleeve, sewed on the narrow piece of fabric a little way in and threaded the elastic through that. I hope that helps!

Do you have a tutorial for the blue top you made?
@pheebear3 жыл бұрын
No, unfortunately I don't. Not yet anyway! To do the ruffley sleeves of the light blue top, you need to do the sleeves the same as in the video right up until adding the tie. The ruffle is a long piece of fabric gathered up until it matches the sleeve. Then sew that to the sleeve, hem it and your done! I hope that is slightly helpful?

I'm so lost on which measurements of the sleeve are what, but otherwise I enjoy this tutorial
@pepadear49622 жыл бұрын
hey, how do i sew the sleeves into the blouse? it wasn't in the video...
@pheebear2 жыл бұрын
Whoops, I didn't even realise! Honestly sleeves confuse me at the best of times, so what I would advise is having the main part of the bodice and the sleeves both the right side out, hold them together so that they look right and then pin and sew in place. You don't need to sew the entire circumference of the top of the sleeve because that is where the elastic goes, you basically just sew the armpit onto the bodice and then the elastic around the entire shoulder part. I hope that kind of helps?

No, unfortunately. I bought it from a pin-up type shop called "That Shop".

Can you explain what you mean by under the armpit? I'm confused on how far down the side you mean by that..
@pheebear4 жыл бұрын
I suppose I should have said that I meant under the armpit with room to spare. If you were to measure closer, the sleeve would be narrower and not have the same "poof" effect.

This video went way too fast past the measurements and pattern layout. I got completely lost and I am an experienced seamstress. Particularly, it did not discuss how to allow enough for the gathering at shoulder line and sleeve. Please try again.

French seam? Any good? Birdy
@pheebear2 жыл бұрын
French seams would work for this top. Especially if you’re making it out of satin or a fabric which fray’s easily.
