If you do the math, you'll see that that thing wont hold a charge for more than 10 minutes lol. I would have at least used a rechargeable battery so you don't need a new one literary every 10 minutes

How exactly would you recharge it? Let's think about this for a minute... Okay, minute is up: how exactly would you plan on popping the battery into a battery charger? I guess step one would be to completely deconstruct the tool, and remove all the glue... 🤦‍♀️😅

I wouldn't say lethal... toxic yes (highly dependent on foam) but probably not gonna kill you in small scale.

Такой штукенцией мы пользовались в художественных мастерских в Киеве ещё в конце 70-ых. Вырезали буквы и другое для оформления витрин и торговых залов. Так что всё новое - это давно забытое старое.

Did that years ago to make foam ribs for an ultralight. Use nichrome wire and power it from a Variac or other variable supply. Make sure the wire is very taught and cut at the correct speed so the cut doesn't widen. Works best on the blue foam insulation.

Nice Hotwire cutter, although it is easier to cut cleanly if you cut out the shape you want out of card stock with some scissors, and then stick that to the foam. Then you can use the card stock to guide the wire.

I know this was 5 years ago and you may have forgotten about this comment. But I’m trying to design a mould completely out of wax for a resin cast and have been having trouble cutting it correctly. You just gave me the knowledge I needed to efficiently make my favorite coworker who means the world to me a fantastic Christmas gift. Good looks

Neat! If i needed to build a larger one say 3x+ bigger how would the heat suffer over a longer wire on only 1 battery? If i was to run several batteries together to boost voltage, would the wood burn faster? What other material could i use in place of the wood or protect the wood with to stop is ruining the frame as fast?

Если что,пенопласт при горении выделяет смертельно опасный газ фосген. Так что этим очень опасно заниматься,нужен распиратор,или на крайний случай хорошо проветривоемое помещение.

If you use a longer bit of wire it won't get quite so hot, you can then move slower and get finer details.

You need to add/connect a small resistor,it will slow the cutting but it will be safe otherwise someone who don,t know that will have some serious injury when it explodes. Please correct this project.
