An animation by Julia Pretl for Contemporary Geometric Beadwork that shows how to build a PodCast Bead, a tool we use for "casting off" new work. We will add sound and notes to this for a full tutorial, but for now, I'd like comments - could you make a PodCast just from seeing this?
We used size 8 round beads for the center ring and size 11 Delica cylinder beads for the body.
It's best to use two different colors for the increase beads, so that it is easy to sort them up and down as they are placed. We alternated blue and gold for our increase beads.
Using two different beads for each layer of peyote stitch between the increases is also helpful to see the rounds build. We used orange and purple for this.

If you would like to see this animation slower, just click on the Settings Wheel above (or possibly the dots in the upper right, depending on your system) and select "Playback Speed." You can put it on Autoplay, to repeat as a GIF, slow it down or speed it up.

animation is superb and I think anyone could create a podcast bead using this. I live in France and it is worth remembering that not everyone speaks English but an animation like this is international.

Having made this podcast from earlier written instructions, I can see that this "interpretation" of the steps involved is so much easier than how my brain interpreted the printed word. This video is simply Crazy Amazing GOOOOOOOOD!

It's so helpful to see in 3D and get the hands out of the way, isn't it? The simplest possible worksheet I made to go along with the animation still has so many words... like Julia says, the picture really is worth 1000 words sometimes!

Very clear on thread path. Side view is great to show how the beads are oriented on the 8/0 circle. Love that you switch to showing just the beads being placed after several bead with thread path placements are shown and the thread path for the step up at the end of the rows. Clearly shows the thread for the 8/0 beads and his to get to the place to put in the first (herringbone) pair of beads. Julia did a fantastic job.❤

These animations are fabulous. I would not have attempted a podcast without seeing how it works first. Thank you for your time and patience in designing these delightful constructs!

I've been enthralled by CGB for a couple of years, but even with the books, I've been hesitant to do anything with it. This is perfect and has given me the "courage" to start working with the whole CGB system(s). Why stop with only this one. I would love to see something similar for everything. Thanks!!

I beleive I could build a podcast bead with this animation. I'm familiar with peyote and increases so this seems very clear and concise to me. Thank you for the time and effort to make this animation. I can't wait to get started! ☺

Yes, this animation is really clear and easy to follow. With podcasts, the parts that I am still unclear on are the rounds that come later - the rounds that separate when you deconstruct. I would love to see these animated, if possible. I am a bit confused by adding loops, detonation points, when and where to leave tails, etc.

That would be quite a lot of animation but I agree, it would be incredible. Julia actually built this frame by frame, old-school style. It took some serious time.

I'm generally not big on video, I adore printed instructions; but having already done one, this would definitely serve as a good reminder of the process, and yes, I could do it AGAIN using this animation....1st time around...maybe not. But that could be just me.

Yes, I could make it just following the animation. The animation is excellent - it makes what you do for each round extremely clear.

I could definitely make one with this video, and have already downloaded it. I slowed it down to a comfortable speed and it was very easy to follow what was happening. I have PTSD, and for me, it might be even easier to follow without the sound. It makes it easier to focus on the movements. The more of this type of animation, the better! I would not be opposed to an animation for every technique, although Julia might object a bit. ;)

Great animation although I favour printed instructions. That said, this makes every step exceptionally clear. I’m not sure how others would react, but just like you do in your fabulous videos, you could just show the first two or three steps and the last step in each roundup shorten it up a. It. Thanks for everything you and your team have shared with us so far. Renee Good

Can you believe anyone was lame enough to leave a "dislike" on a free, open-source, hand-animated video showing a helpful technique? Laughing, but Lord, what gets into people?

@@katemckinnon8776 Kate, I hope that you didn’t think the comment I made a year ago was negative. Everything from the CGB group has been amazing and I am waiting anxiously for the new books. Hope you are doing well and that you enjoy your real job . Rural Ontario has very few known cases of Covid but we are still being very careful. I offered to make a bracelet for a “friend”. That was a mistake. She only wanted a flat peyote bracelet in lavender, pale blue and white, a colour combination that I’m not too fond of, and she didn’t want it more than an inch wide.
