Instead of wrapping all that wire around the tip ends to secure it to the transformer secondary, I'd have slid a slit piece of copper tubing over it and then compressed that tight with a hose clamp.

You could take any thick cable for the second winding. But you used the same material by joining it in parallel instead of sequentially. Your method is beautiful and sophisticated.

what volt transformer did you use, did you use your common wall outlet to power this or some specific power source
@walterbunn280
@walterbunn280 5 жыл бұрын
The term "common wall outlet" doesn't apply. He's in india, so it's probably a 220 volt transformer, but there are some places that get 110 there. The real issue is the frequency. Transformers meant for European frequency (50 hertz) react differently than stuff meant for US mains current, which is 60 hertz. The main difference is in the number of turns that are permitted, with european transformers requiring less than an american equivalent. The real issue with this design is that it's not electrically isolated from the circuitry that you're soldering.
@taunteratwill1787
@taunteratwill1787 4 жыл бұрын
@@walterbunn280 "it's not electrically isolated from the circuitry that you're soldering. WHAAAAAT?! :-))
@walterbunn280
@walterbunn280 4 жыл бұрын
@@taunteratwill1787 The heating element is a straight copper wire that comes directly in contact with the molten solder. Most soldering irons run electricity through a length of nichrome wire to heat up a chunk of iron, that is then used to melt the solder. The copper wire also becomes more resistant to electricity as it heats up. If the cold component that is being soldered into place ever becomes the path of least resistance in that circuit, it will dump the entire load through that component. Further, molten solder is mildly corrosive to other metals. As the copper heating element dissolves, the electricity is forced more and more to flow through the hot solder to complete a circuit, which will eventually cause it to flow through something it's not supposed to.
@taunteratwill1787
@taunteratwill1787 4 жыл бұрын
@@walterbunn280 If your theory was right then no matter what materials are used to solder, circuits would be fried all over the world. I can assure you that no current will or can be dumped that way. If you don't think so just attach a multimeter on various points on your solder project to test for even the weakest currents. :-))
