This video is all about how to propagate the Prayer Plant houseplant to give the maranta a more full look! You can use this method of plant propagation on any indoor plant, but I especially love doing this with my calathea houseplants. This is a straightforward method to getting indoor plant cuttings to root in water & how to replant them back into the soil for a more full plant impact!This is an excellent way to grow your plant collection & get larger plants without spending any extra money on plants! Patience is definitely required when houseplant propagating, but it is such a rewarding process to watch the root systems form!

I have a beautiful prayer plant that I had near the middle of the house for a long time. It stayed about the same size. When it got a little bigger, I replanted it in a larger container and moved it in front of an east window near a heater vent. It started growing like wild fire and spouting tiny flowers. I pinch off any leaves that look like they are drying out. It is now twice the size of the larger container I planted it in.

I’ve struggled getting my marantas to root but when I was out of town, my husband didn’t change the water and they actually show growth! new method! haha

the leaves release a certain type of growthormone to stimulate root growth. if you change the water too soon too often you throwing away the water that has the rooting hormone in it which slow down or prevent the plant from rooting.

Beautiful plants! I got my prayer plant a few weeks ago from a garden centre and had a pick of many but it was only when I got home I saw one of the biggest leaves had a section missing and it was bugging me but I hated the thought of just snipping it off and binning it so fingers crossed it will propagate 🥰 thanks for sharing your knowledge!

You're so right about marantas having zero threshold for tap water. Some of my plants do fine with it, but marantas respond both immediately and dramatically in my experience. And my baby loves her soil nice and moist.

This video has been so helpful for my prayer plant. When you posted this I propagated some of the plant (I was very scared to do so) but since then my plant has been doing really well! It has sprouted new babies. I just replanted the first cutting I took. It grew some major roots. I'm praying it does okay and is strong enough to do okay in the plant. Im very nervous!!!!

Right now in Belgium and The Netherlands, plant people are going crazy over the maranta lemon lime. It’s not really available and not too long a go it was in a very small amount. People bought them up and are now selling cuttings at crazy prices. Almost as bad as with the variegated monstera. Lately its all just people wanting and complaining about this plant in the plant groups i am in. And now i see it again in your video haha. Just can’t escape the maranta lemon lime i think 😅 Hopefully it will be widely available here soon so the madness can stop 😄 Sometimes its weird to see how easy it is to get a certain plant in america and the other way around. Still enjoyed the video! If i ever get my hands on one, i will now what to do 😄

I just bought a Prayer Plant. The lady told me at night the plant folds in and the leaves look like the plant is praying. I'm not sure how true this is, but I thought th concept and image of this would look so beautiful. Thank you for your video!

I just bought a dying lemon lime maranta cutting from someone online about 6 weeks ago! It was in such poor shape. 1 of the 3 leaves was so burned that it had to be cut. I've enjoyed watching it. It took a couple weeks to get it healthy enough for all the leaves to begin moving and it's grown a new leaf. I can't wait for it to be big enough to propagate like this one 😍

I've had success propagating my Maranta Prayer Plant directly in soil. I'm new to plants and propagation so I've been experimenting with all of the methods just to see what works on what plants, for me. While I think the water method is pry more fool proof, I don't have a lot of space to keep additional cuttings in separate water containers hanging around so I like the idea of putting cuttings directly back in the soil of the mother plant if possible. So far, I've been lucky. :-)

I've always just snipped off hanging bits, put them directly in soil and water, water, water for the first week. New plantings look sad for a few days but almost always bounce back. Nevertheless, I think I'll try it your way and avoid the 'sad' period.

I have a big prayer plant I have had for 26 years! I have propagated one for my sister. Now I'm making one for my neice! Sometimes the edges of the leaves turn brown. I'm not sure why or what I should do!I really love my prayer plant! Great video!

Good video, here in the UK mains water usually only includes chlorine so a day sat in the watering can let's that evaporate and then the water is good for house plants the following day 😊

Maranta prayer plants can actually become trailing plants! But if you only have a few leaves maybe try using a chopstick to keep her standing up! Maybe try more dirt? I'm very new so take this with a grain of salt!

I put a little bit of liquid seaweed fertiliser in the water when I propagate & in my personal experience it has helped alot with the amount of roots I get.

Whenever I need to add more water to my water-rooting plants I put them under a gently running stream of tap water and let them enjoy that movement for a few minutes. Sometimes I completely empty the container and do this as well. It stimulates the roots and puts new energy into the plant.

Stephanie C. Don’t propagate this plant in water, you’ll loose a few cuttings. Just stick it straight into a good soil. It will root much faster without any lose.

Janice Raby 100% success rate! So everyone who tries to propagate in soil and loses any may contact you for a refund. You seem pretty animate that’s the only way. Seems fair to me. There is only one way to spell loss.

I don't ever change my propagation water either. But sometimes if I leave them in higher light, they'll get algae growing in there too, but no biggie.. If ya think about it, you don't change the water in sealed terrariums, the dead stuff becomes nutrients and it is a whole cycle. Just call it "water culture". ;)

Wow you're lucky that your water propagations have never had problems like that. I had two water props that started molding after I didn't change the water, but only after I moved and had put them in more lifht
