Create the best radio DJ presenter demo. A radio DJ demo has a very specific structure. This is a tried and tested formula for a radio demo to be sent to radio stations and radio station managers. There are no guarantees of getting chosen as a radio presenter but you can dramatically improve your chances of being chosen and becoming a radio DJ if you send the right kind of demo.

What I will be showing you, that needs to be in your radio demo, needs to actually be what you can do. That means recording your radio links as if they are live. Of course if you are not actually working on a radio station it will be a recording studio version of a demo and not an actual live radio demo but it must not be an edited version. I will explain this in more detail in a moment.
In most cases radio station managers only want to hear demo recordings done live. That means that you are starting on the back foot. But don’t be discouraged. The important thing is to be able to present as if you are live. That means creating your own make shift radio studio which can actually be great fun. Luckily the radio station software is easily accessible these days at low cost and in some cases for free.
What you need is at least two sources of music and a microphone. You will need a basic mixing desk and a recording device. The audio sources can be as simple as one or two cell phones or a laptop and the microphone can be an affordable microphone you can find on Ebay or Amazon or even at your local second hand store.
It is important though to have this combination of two sound or music sources and a microphone. If you don’t have these you will end up making an editor produced demo recording that will not help you improve as a presenter and will certainly not help you with your applying to radio stations.
So, lets get to the actual structure of the demo. Then I will walk you through how to put it together.
So the radio demo structure looks like this:
3 Minutes maximum (3 MB or less)
Parts:
1) Introduction (10 Sec max)
2) Music to music link (40 sec max)
3) Music to advert link (40 sec max)
4) Advert read (30 sec max)
5) Short news read ( 60 minute max)
This is the basic structure of the demo. I twill show your technical skills, show off your voice and have you presenting in all the different presenter roles on radio being the DJ, news reader and other co-host roles.The total of the demo is no longer than 3 minute. Any thing more than that the radio station manger will not listen to. In fact, most radio manager can make a decision in the first ten seconds. They will only listen to the rest of the 3 minutes if they are impressed with the first ten seconds. Often it can be a short as five seconds and your demo is already in the trash.
1) Introduction
First record a short introduction which goes something like this:
Hi I’m…(name goes here)…and this is my radio demo consisting of two links, one advert read and one short news read. My contact details are attached to the audio file.
2) Music to music link
I will explain the radio link in more detail in future but for now just know that you will be doing what is called the Mexican bicycle. This has nothing to do with bicycles or Mexico. It is simply the description of the structure of the radio link. By the way this is not the only way to do a radio link but it is the most basic, and important way to show you have the skills as a radio DJ. The diagram shows the talking out of the song into your content and then back into another song. This means giving the song name and artist, station Id and any other info need like the time etc. then you do a short bit of content like a short bit of interesting news, then you talk across the intro of the next song.

They were called air checks when I was on the air. We were not referred to as "Radio Presenters" either. We were referred to as " Radio Announcers or Radio Personalities. 3:33 - this was pretty much the structure even way back in the day. Many commercial radio station Program Directors want the first thing that comes out of your mouth after keying the mic to be the station call sign or slogan. I would never put time and temp in an air check.

Yeah some things change with time. Some station never back announce songs and others don't even care if you mention songs at all. But to me tried and tested techniques won't fail you especially if you are new to radio. I think with many things in the world you learn the best theories and techniques and then make your own mind up what is best or simply do what your programs manager says. I have a lot of experienced radio presenters who watch my videos but it's the newcomers that really gain the most. It can be fun to discuss which technique is best but new presenters need to learn quality skills before making their own choice.

Hi. Yes I have worked as a radio presenter on many radio stations as well as managed and even owned radio stations. So I am hoping to share my knowledge and experience in a range of radio broadcast related topics. I also ran an in person presenter training class and I really enjoyed watching students grow as presenters. That's what inspired me to start this channel. Hope you keep enjoying the videos :)

I saw a job advert of being radio presenter and i was told to send voice demo and CV, i have never done anything about radio and know nothing but have desire and passion to do one, how do i go about it please, thank u

@@marthamumbi9742 Hi Martha. Thank you for your question. Like any job application you need to be able to show that you can do the job. Having the passion is great but it is only the beginning. You need to learn as much as you can about presenting then practice as much as you can and make a demo from your work or practicing. Let the desire and passion push you to get this done. You can make a basic demo of your voice and send it to the radio station. Sometimes they want fresh new people with no skills that they can train up from scratch based on your quality of voice. This is very rare though. Most stations want people with at least some experience or knowledge of presenting.

Hey too, thank you for the response So whats needed to be said in that demo voice, and is it okay if i use my phone one
@inspiresoundpro
@inspiresoundpro Жыл бұрын
@@marthamumbi9742 Normally a phone will not have the right quality for voice recordings but you can try doing a basic radio link without the music on your phone but you must do it in a room with no echo like your bedroom. Then don't talk too close and not too far from your phone so the sound is clear. practice a few times recording till you have one that sounds best. I will be posting a new video about doing a radio link soon. That might help you with getting the structure of the the demo link recording right.

It is a great lifestyle if you can achieve it. A dream job worth pursuing. Age doesn't really matter if there is an audience. Keep going and best of luck with your shows. Hope it works out for you long term :)

Hi. You will need either software that can mix music or at least to audio players like two cell phone to be your music source. Then you need to be able to record the radio link so you will need an audio recorder like Audacity. It can be tricky to wire it all up. One of the best ways to do it is to use what you would put together for an audio streaming station. A lot of it is free like Winamp, Radio Dj Software and Virtual cables but you might need some help to set it all up. It can get a bit tricky so it helps to have someone who knows their way around audio software setups. Try watching a few of my streaming radio videos. Those can help you get set up with something similar to a radio studio. Then you will need to edit it all down to a nice short demo with software like Audacity. I have a "early access" radio presenter course starting soon that might help you on your journey. Best of luck. Cheers.
