♥ Hi, my name is Lori and my goal is to teach, inspire and live off the land in style by knitting my own clothes, creating essential survival items and living luxuriously warm, dyeing fibre using bright acid colours and occasionally plants, fungi, muck and mud.
When I began wet felting 10 years ago, there were only a few basic tutorials. On this channel, I want to share everything I know so so that you can easily begin upgrading your craft by creating remarkable fibre art more quickly. From illustrative conceptual ideas into beautiful creative work that is ready to repeat quickly using minimal tools and resources.

It's so high fashion! 😍 I thought I don't like felt bags, but you showed me the creativity and fun with shapes ❤ love the final shape, and it also makes the bag more practical - there is much more space inside and design is still pretty and shape perfect even when you put something in it. I have tried to use washing machine for my projects and what I find is, you loose the control of the direction pressure is applied and felt might change shape quite drastically. I also get a lot of wrinkles.. 😢 so I stick with using my hands. I hope I can ask - is the one really colorful bag you show at the end with pink speckles felted with that design or you used dye?

Hi! Thank you for watching and for the thorough comment. I also appreciate the tip on the washing machine…I’m quite hesitant to use it and I think you stated why…Loss of control of the shaping plus yucky wrinkles… I still get some wrinkles using my hands. It could be my rolling style. I see some impressive felt art without any wrinkles at all. I notice less wrinkles with different types of fibre. Yes the bag at the end is felted white and then dyed. It’s so much fun to paint on the dye in this way!

Great feedback on the bag, so helpful. Thanks so much. I really thought everyone would say no clips. But I do like the clips and the fact that it could be shaped in many other ways. After taking photos of the bag, I decided the design isn't my favourite but I guess that's the point... Now I will make a solid coloured one to use :)

Maybe someone else chimed in but to shape 3D objects, I cut open old pillows and use the insides to stuff the 3D object. This creates a sort of block (like a hat block) that I then use against a washboard or use the hand washboards or even a sander sometimes. Leave the cotton in until it's dry.

Your work is wonderful!! Can I ask if you rinse out your project at some time to remove the soap as don't think I noticed you do that? If you do, do you use warm water? Thankyou
@muffsmerino
@muffsmerino Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Because I am felting on the towel and my soap is natural, it seems to dissipate by the I’m almost finished. I’m also always adding warm water to my project close to the end to finish and full the edges, especially at the very end, I don’t add any soap back in. So I’m thinking 🤔 it just goes into the towel. I also finish the project on a dry towel and that takes all the water out and I’m sure any soap that’s left… I realise some soaps could be very soapy! If you’re is then I think I would definitely rinse in warm water at the end :)

@muffsmerino
@muffsmerino Жыл бұрын
Oh yes, you can make your bag any shape you like, or the shape I have made and just ignore the handle shape, or you could not cut the hole and have the handle as a bag flap. Then watch the loops video. Have you seen it? kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nM2BZ5Cdnd2wiI0.html Add the four loops to your bag before felting it. And you can even add one to the flap if you wanted to add a button or hook a loop to a clasp. Many have asked about loops, so I will definitely do a video on this and maybe do a strap bag where I add straps to the loop.

Wash the soap out at the very end. Usually what I do is I finish felting my project by dipping it in a large bowl of hot water, then I finish felting it on a dry towel to get all the water and residue out. Then it’s also almost dry too :)

It’s at the beginning in the written part. Comes up very fast. 200g of wool! Approximately. It’s also approximately 6 layers, but always go with the amount :) because everyone lays out thin or thick.
@cindytaylah-barics406
@cindytaylah-barics406 Жыл бұрын
Id love to know how thick it ended up with 8 layers? If its for light weight use? Would 4 layers be sufficient
@muffsmerino
@muffsmerino Жыл бұрын
I tested four layers and it's quite a bit more flimsy and difficult to shape edges nicely. I found the perfect thickness to be 6 layers. It is quite strong that way and also not too bulky. Its perfect. The new version, I also used Merino wool 6 layers, approx 8cm to 12cm shrinkage. My Merino wool is not combed so it has quite a nice finish. Combed Merino will seem a bit thinner.

I think six flips all together. So I have folded the edges over six times. Only on one side. I don’t do my edges twice in one layer. I only fill it in on the other side.

The resist is made from 1mm flat packing foam. 2mm is also nice. Any thicker and it’s more challenging to work with :) You can also use bubble wrap but it’s more finicky to cut shapes out of and fold the wool around.
