You can also use a handcrank to start it up if you connect the pump to the steam engine. Just make sure that the handcrank is on a LARGE cog, not a small one. Since the larger one’s rim travels a further distance than a small one, it make the pistons spin fast enough to start steaming.

Yeah I realized that a large cogwheel works better, and I'm making a revised version of this video since water wheels just got changed in 0.5.1 which I will test how a hand crank works

Of course! When I first started Create I felt like I couldn't learn a lot from videos, and I build siloed devices more often than not, so getting a minimum viable steam engine would've been very helpful to find.

Now make it.. smaller. I've got a water wheel powered design that's 2x2 but only 4 blocks tall. (Not counting blocks used to retain water)

I'd love to see the design you have! This was the smallest I was able to get it via my trial and error. I wanted to make sure I didn't use a Rotational Speed Controller on the water wheel one as I was trying to make it the cheaper option as well.

I can see a few ways to compact further without straying too far from the design. Like replacing the 2 small gears with a single large cog. And then placing the steam engine underneath the boiler. The speed increase should mean you need less water power as well so you should only need 2 sides exposed to flowing water. I only use water wheel powered steam engines as starter motors for larger plants since they are themselves self starting. If it's early game power I think crank to start works just fine

the large cogwheel i didn't actually consider. thats a smarter idea lol My create series is my first dive into the mod; I was dumb with a lot of decisions I made, such as not making a central power facility and just kinda... building isolated systems. Definitely something I am going to change come season 2. Also from my testing for some reason it hadnt worked making it work with only two sides because I was using the two cog method. Once I learn more I will probably end up remaking this short anyway

Instead of 2 cogwheela to power the mech pump, use a large one, it's a shaft cheaper and it will make the mechanic pump go twice as fast

Yeah I learned that after the fact lol I made this video fairly early after starting playing create and probably should've held off until I had more experience. I did make an updated one for the new update though that iirc I use a large cogwheel in, but I don't use a water wheel to power it.

This is the create mod by simibubi on curseforge! This video is outdated at this point though due to some changes in the most recent update. If you do download it to play I have an updated one

The item is called a shaft, it is crafted by putting two andesite alloys in a vertical line in the crafting interface. This video is out of date though; I do have an updated one in the pinned comment!

what if after connecting a mechanism, for example (mixer), an overload occurs ?

you have overstressed that steam engine, meaning you have one of two options: slow down the speed of the device via gears or rotational speed controller, or build more power sources to make up for the power difference.

its not working for me. i built it the exact same but water just isent pumping into the boiler. when i put normal fluid tanks down the water pumps just fine so its its not the pump.

if you are on 0.5.1 or later they changed mechanics and so it won't work. I realized that as I started playing.

The glass is there to guide the water because it has to hit all four sides in that version of the mod. Water wheels in that version produced power based on how many sides were in contact with the water. That is now changed, so this design doesn't work on new versions, but that's why the glass was there for this version.

i dont really remember how to make a steam engine because my mincraft got really old. and i cant use it rn. so here is some basic info: you need to place a shaft 3 blocks away. i think? and then add a steam engine on top or beside it.

If you are playing on a version earlier than 0.5, then it won’t be there. If you update to the most recent one then this video won’t be applicable anymore, but I do have one pinned for the new version. I will say (I started on 0.5) it seems like 0.5 had a LOT of changes so updating it on an existing world may not be a great idea

It is only available in the Create Mod, it is not in vanilla. I have not played any other versions of the Create Mod outside of the 1.19.2 specific version, so I do not know if it is available in earlier versions, nor do I know if there is a 1.16.5 version.

The Steam Engine was introduced in 0.5 according to the wiki, so no it is not in that version

Man the steam engine is useless with the water wheel, if you want to add a waterwheel to power the steam engine then just use a waterwheel to power yours stuff

This video is out of date; water wheels got changed in 0.5.1 so it no longer works. There is an updated video in the pinned comment. Also, pre-0.5.1, a water wheel could produce up to 320 energy, whereas a lowest level steam engine would produce 2048. So, using a water wheel for the powering actually made a lot of sense so you could get that full 2048 power elsewhere!
