How To Make A Stub Shafts from CV Joints.

If you"re planning on converting your all wheel drive TBSS or any vehicle to a rear wheel drive, you will need stubb axle shafts to lock down the wheel hubs. Terry shows how he converted an old CV joint to a stub axle shaft. 15 min of work to save 140 bucks.. Check it out..

@@Coverman66 Hey terry im doing this on my 07 TB LT its the 5.3 v8. Did u have to put plugs on the end of the diff where the cv axles would go or is it fine without? Also will it leak oil or anything?

Good work Terry 👍 my TBSS is RWD but I wanted the AWD at the time but couldn't pass up on the deal for the Rwd . Now I just waiting for you to do a LSX mod on your TBSS I know it's coming Lol !

My envoy xl is rear wheel 4l80e 408 ci ls. Onlu problem I ran into was braking the rear shocks and sway links. Had to get solid motor mounts the kept braking when I smack the pedal. Put a set of coil over shocks in the rear and kept me from nraking stuff in the rear.

@@Coverman66 I got them off ebay theyre awesome to me stiffened up the rear and still gave a good ride . monroe 58644 is the part number $131.72 for set.

How did you cover/close the holes on the front differential? Did you leave them open? I have an 06 trailblazer ls 4x4 and my cv joint axles are shot. Mechanic says my front diff might also need to be replaced. Thing is I don’t have money to replace the axles much less the front diff and if i did I don’t know that I’d want to since last time I did my oil change I noticed a good amount of metal shavings in my oil. I don’t think I want to invest more money into it if my engine my be going out. I’m thinking of just keeping it as a rear 2wd. I’ve never used the 4x4 and honestly don’t need it. don’t see why I should spend all that money to fix it. Thanks for your helpful video!!

I noticed the stop flang on the cut off CV joints is some what thiner than the factory stub shafts. I was wondering how the are holding up and is this a safe way to do the conversion? I love my AWD here in Colorado with the snow and some times ice. With that said I hate weak link of the tranny, and would like to use the built 4L85e I have but will fit up to the transfer case.

i wish i had the answer. im not 100 percent sure if it will bolt up.. i cut at the first step and its ad thick as a stock axle shaft.. i will keep you posted..

weight and the front wheels wont spin independently.. are you removing the all wheel drive?

not at this time 4M.. if i take the engine out then i will swap the pan.. for now i will put in an extra quart of oil and roll

2wd and awd trucks use the same pan 4M.

Pretty cool. Don't the hub bearings collapse without that shaft installed, I remember at my work someone moving a car out of the shop minus fwd transaxle and c.v. shafts and hub bearing fell apart.

exactly.. i would imaging the wheel will come off if the bearing fails..

The word on the forums is that stub axles are not needed

i use them because they locks down the hub. without them the only thing keeping your wheel on your car is the bearing.. they cam stock on rear wheel drive TBSS for a reason.. im doing a video soon on the stub shaft and the importance of having one..
