How to Make a Sublimation Tumbler that is Crisp, Vibrant, and Has No Ghosting

In this video, I show you my process for sublimation tumblers. If you already has a process that works well for you, stay with it. But if you are having any issues, check out how I make mine. I printed the image for this tumbler on my Epson Ecotank 15000 that has sublimation ink in it and I used the high quality setting and the paper setting of presentation matte paper.

Yes, you should. You can get there!!! I messed up several tumblers before I got to where they were looking great! Mostly from not wrapping/taping well, and also having too much pressure.

I have the basic default settings on for those when printing for almost all of my sublimation items. I do change the paper setting to premium presentation matte and I change the print quality to high. Other than those two things, I leave everything else alone.

Hi Marilyn, thank you for this video. I have issues with the bottom looking as nice as yours. I did notice you cut off some of the excess off the bottom. Maybe I need to try that.

Yes, I don't like to have a lot of excess at the bottom. It's easier for me to work with the tumbler and not have white splotches when I cut most of the excess off. I hope it helps you too and thank you for watching.

For tumblers, I use a sublimation printer. It is actually just an Epson Ecotank, but I put sublimation ink in it instead of the ink that came with it.

I have had different brands be slightly different sizes, so I typically cut a piece of computer paper first in order to get the correct size. It will be somewhere around 8.15 inches tall by 9.4 inches wide, but you will want to dial in the exact measurements for your tumbler. Thanks for watching!!!

Tumbler looks great! I just recently got into tumbler making, well honestly just did my very first one today lol. I have a question do the tumblers kinda bend a little? Mine was a little bend if that makes sense, my husband had to make it go round again on the top so the lid could fit. I was wondering if maybe the press was to tight or is this normal? Sorry for long message

It sounds like the pressure was too much. The tumbler should not bend. I did that also on one of my first tumblers 🙂 it took me several tumble before I felt good about how my tumblers looked. Thank goodness for KZfaq University 😀

I would like to do this myself and a several questions if you don't mind answering them would be great? What do you use to get your designs and is there a current software you have to have to do this on your computer? Do you know if you can convert a printer you already own to do sublimation? I would also like to know what you do to make your shirts? Is it sublimation or something else?

I get most of my designs from Creative Fabrica. I have an annual membership. You can use any design software and some people even print from programs like Microsoft word or Cricut Design Space (size limitations though). Personally, I would recommend a design software such as Inkscape. I use Inkscape to print my designs and it is free. To convert a printer you already have, you would have to take all of the ink out first, including that which is in your tubes, and you may have to flush it out, but I am not sure on that. There are videos on doing it, though. And not all printers are good for doing this. Epson Ecotanks are often used as sublimation printers. On shirts, I use sublimation, vinyl, the dtf/sublimation hack, rhinestones, etc. So, I have various methods that I use. Thanks so much for watching! And let me know if you have more questions.

Love your videos, very detailed. I purchased the tumbler press that you use yesterday and it arrived today. My tumblers should be here tomorrow. Praying they come out as good as yours. I have the Cricut mug press and have made several mugs and they have all come out well. A bit nervous with the tumblers.

Yes, tumblers are a bit finicky but when you find the process that works well for you, you will love making them. I think the biggest mistake I made when I started was thinking the press had to be super tight on the cup. Too much pressure. And, not taping well at the top and bottom.

I make my image (for most 20 oz skinny tumblers) 9.4 inches x 8.2 inches, then cut off any excess when I wrap it. You have to print in the mirror image. I use premium presentation matte and high quality printing. Then I use an epson ecotank that I put sublimation ink into instead of the regular ink and print it on sublimation paper.
