GREAT JOB!! I USE TO DO HOOK LATCH BACK WHEN I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL. SOME YEARS AGO, FORGOT ALL ABOUT IT TILL NOW, YOU GAVE ME GREAT INSPIRATION TO START AGAIN, IT WAS FUN THEN, AND I KNOW I WOULD ENJOY DOING THIS AGAIN. THE CRAFT STORES ARE SO EXPENSIVE, IT'S CRAZY!! SO I BELIEVE THIS WILL BE A THRIFTY PROJECT, IT WOULD COST MUCH LESS DOING IT THIS WAY, I WANT TO DO ONE FOR MY KITCHEN OR MAYBE LAUNDRY ROOM. THANK YOU AGAIN!!

I love latching. I got a kit for Christmas and it was pretty fun. I use just regular yarn, and my latch hook has a blue, plastic handle. I haven't dug it out for a while, and I'm only done with just over a 10x10 hole square. My mom taught me how, and got herself a bigger canvas to use. She hasn't started yet though. This seems like a very good thing to make with very soft yarns, and I would try if I had the time and materials. The only thing I do that's similar is crocheting. I have the knowledge and needles to knit, but I never end up with what I want. I could try again, but I don't know when. Thanks for the video! ~Sierra A.

Oh that’s so chic’ reminds me of that scene where in the movie ‘the exorcist’ the mom is waiting for her daughter at the doctor doing a really cute latch hook in the waiting room. I also remember a woman walking by the priest in the BEST PLAID SET IVE EVER SEEN so idk as a child scared the bejesus out of me didn’t sleep for literally 3 days and it was my first time I actually fell asleep in church and got in trouble ironically, as an adult I’m like ‘oh my goodness that sweater 👀 you better work!’ The Christmas ones I keep seeing vintage sets on Etsy I wanna get and do for my guest bathroom because I just don’t care 😂 I love those I guess kitschy crafts and idk it makes it feel homie. It might not be ‘aesthetic’ but I don’t care! It makes me happy 😊

@jade1541 No, yarn would fray over time, and it isn't wide enough to fill in the holes on the rug without gaps. If you're talking about wool fabric off the bolt, I don't think that would be the best choice either. Wool tends to shrink when it gets wet, and that might cause problems in the future. I'd recommend sticking with the knit fabric.

@MadeByMarzipan UPDATE: I have now vacuumed this rug using my Dyson multi-floor vacuum... I used the "bare floor" setting because that turns off the beater bar so it won't get caught. It vacuumed without any problems on that setting. :)

This is brilliant use of marketing tshirt that add to waste while creating fun and lovely decor that can withstand hard washing as jersey knit is kind I known for that at this point 😅 especially since you hand secured each point unlike some yarn secured points I think this would really last. Especially if you did some pad stitched cloth backing on the back before a final layer of whatever coating most people prefer on their rugs for slip resist. (I usually do this on cheaper rugs that break down on the cleaning/washing process over time to prevent them from having to be tossed) Smart! 🧠

@tledgee The rug is made of T-shirts, so yes, it's washable. The problem is that it's VERY thick and heavy (at least this large size is), so a standard washing machine wouldn't do a very good job. I recommend spot-cleaning with Shout. If you need a more thorough cleaning, hand wash it in the bathtub and hang to dry. And for those wondering, I have vacuumed this rug with no problem using a Shark stick-vac. I'm not sure how it would do with something like a Dyson. You can always beat it, too.

Yes, it can be washed, since it's just made from knit T-shirts. However, it is VERY heavy when wet, so it wouldn't be practical to wash it in a washing machine. You can hand-wash it in the bathtub with water and a little laundry detergent, or spot clean it with a wet sponge and detergent. I wouldn't recommend store-bought carpet cleaners.

I wouldn't be surprised if it were that much, it took A LOT. You might want to look at stores like Ross or TJ Maxx for cheap white jersey sheets you can dye.

Yes check out rag rugs and there is one where you use 2 strands of material about and inch wide and you keep adding more and put together with out any tools. Some are called toothbrush rugs, but you can use your hands.

Hey there. I've washed mine in the washing machine a couple of times, but it gets super heavy when wet so it's probably hard on my machine. If you want to spot clean it, use a product that's safe for clothing. (Remember, this is made of the same stuff as your T-shirts.) Use a laundry stain spray, then wipe the area with a wet sponge to remove residue.

I think it's best to dye and wash your fabric BEFORE you cut it into strips :) But a mesh bag is great advice for those who choose to cut first.

Yes, I think you could. Be sure to fold over the raw edges of EVERY side before you start, or it will fray. You'll probably be better off actually tying the edges together to form the sides of the cube, rather than sewing. I'd use something thicker than average thread... like dental floss or nylon fishing line.
