I've always wanted to make my own guitar so I finally did. This telecaster build video shows a brief overview on how to make a Telecaster from scratch. I made it from rough cut lumber and gold hardware from StewMac.

One of the best guitars T style guitars I've seen. I think a lot more people like a natural finish than the large companies think.

Much appreciated! And I’d say I agree about the finish. I don’t know why larger companies don’t focus on more natural looking electrics. It honestly would probably drive up costs because most painted guitars are made of panels and not a solid chunk of wood

It looks and sounds awesome, build more! Lots of builders never go through all the measurements of everything. Maybe you can do that. Looks thin on the entry of video which looks good. Looks thicker latter even near finishing.

Fantastic work dude! As a budding luthier myself I too felt the shock of “well dang building guitars takes a lot of skill” but you’d never know it by how you presented everything. The guitar looks gorgeous and I loved your optimism in taking your setbacks and turning them into opportunities. Also the risk it for the brisket at the end with the inlay is a great touch. Often times it’s under those same types of circumstances that the most beautiful work is created. Hope you’ll keep building and documenting into the future!

Thanks for the video. I didn't see what finish you used on the list of stuff in the description. Could you please specify what you used? You said Rubio Monocoat, but which one and how was it applied / number coats etc. Thanks.
@TheWoodenHobbyist
@TheWoodenHobbyist 9 ай бұрын
It’s rubio monocoat pure and I applied it by using a white scotch bright pad. Then wiped the excess away with a paper towel. Rubio monocoat, as the name suggests, only requires one coat if done properly. Thanks for watching!

Nice build! Why would you radius the fretboard first and glue it later?

Thanks! I go back and forth now. I made a jig for a bass build where a router does the radius work and it needs to be glued to the neck. I guess means rely on method

the nut slot on my new tele neck is way too narrow, about 1mm. I’m thinking to wrap up my fretboard radius gauge with sand paper to widen the gap, a sound plan to you or theres other easier/safer way to do this please? many thanks

I think that would work just fine, taking off little bits at a time and check fit. A sharp chisel could do the trick as well.

Very nice guitar. Beautiful maple. On my glossy screen, your finish looks glossy too of course, but is it really a gloss finish? As far as I know, Rubio is very matt. Why did you make the trussrod nut accessible on the side of the headstock?
@TheWoodenHobbyist
@TheWoodenHobbyist 7 ай бұрын
It’s definitely matte! I plan on adding the new Rubio sheen enhancer to it though. Since it was my first guitar build, I made a lot of mistakes on where I put things and how I tackled problems. One of these things was the truss accessibility. I would definitely do it different next time.

I wish I had the skills to make a guitar. I made a dulcimer from a kit once, but that's about it. My problem is that me and tools don't get along well. I'm not ambitious but tend to use different hands to do different things.

@@TheWoodenHobbyist Yeh, got the 3-Way and it's working. Tried to put a 4-Way switch and there is no valid wiring diagram for that with GEN 4 or the Ultra Noiseless. If you ever decide you want a 4-Way switch there, first try to find a wiring diagram, 'cos not even Fender Support could provide one ;) Keep it going mate. That is one good looking guitar. Would love to see you do anotherone.

@TheWoodenHobbyist
@TheWoodenHobbyist Жыл бұрын
It really depends on how you plan on building it! There are people who just use basic hand tools, sand paper, elbow grease and take a long time to build. Others who are more impatient, like myself, choose the multiple power tools option. Are you looking for a specific workaround at a certain part of the build?

Nice guitar dude, but remove the hardware before finishing, never shield the guitar before finishing and routing the cavities before final shaping is easier

@ovniufo6777
@ovniufo6777 10 ай бұрын
@@TheWoodenHobbyist removing string ferrules is better for applying the fininsh, and if you put some finish on the shielding it won't work properly, and you need to shield once again. For the cavities it's better to have a good stability so a nice wood block is more stable than bench cookies
