Normally you fill it with water with the plants inside and the water magnifies the blossoms inside.

This is GORGEOUS. I wondered if knitting mesh comes in black so I did a search. I found something in black they were calling plastic canvas that looked like the same stuff. Although you did manage to completely hide the mesh in this terrarium, the rest of us might not be quite so skilled so I thought I'd mention the black mesh. ;). Amazing job, it's absolutely beautiful!

This is exactly what I was looking for!! I have a glass vase that's shaped like a human head with an opening on the bottom. I had been thinking about making a terrarium with it but had no clue on how to go about doing it. This helps tremendously!

At first I was like "There's nooo way that's going to work" the second you said you are going to use silicone to secure the bigger tube in place, I knew what you were doing and that it would work. Now I'm excited and had to pause the video just to say that this is the work of a genius.

This is an antique rose globe! You fill the sink, allowing water to completely fill the globe with no air bubbles left. You attached a beautiful open rose (or other flower) to the base, hold the flower under water to allow as many air bubbles to escape as possible, then put the upside down rose into the water-filled globe and screw it on tight!! The rose would be highly magnified and keep for months!!! Gorgeous!! I wish there was a way to show a picture of the one I inherited from my Aunt Opalmae!!

Another awesome video! Great job man, you're doing, everything I'm dreaming. I have a lot of similar ideas, but I just can't find enough time to dedicate to this. I'll send you photos of my creations late on. Anyway, I have tip/suggestion: The hardest part for me is to understand the plants. I know how they look, but i don't know their names or details about them. When you mention plant names, could you also put up a small picture of that plant so it's easier for us to imagine what you're talking about? Also some videos just talking about plants would be awesome. Some areas that I would be interested to find out: identification, light, temperature, soil, planting density, humidity, growth rate, etc. I'd love to find out about each plant and moss species, where it stands on all those subjects. So we can plan our terrariums better. I fell that might help a lot of us beginners to start learning the science behind terrarium building, a little bit of biology / bryology. Anyway I hope you get to read this comment, let me know what you think about the idea.

Mate, you're a terrarium wizard. I've only just entertained myself with the idea of making a few using old coffee jars since I've got a few piling up now, and the idea of low maintenance indoor greenery tickles me in just the right way. Pretty sure I'm just binge watching your videos to give me ideas, though understandably the plant species may vary due to my location. Still, consider me inspired by your work.

We made terrariums like this in grade school. Granted they were complete failures compared to this, but they appeared to have no opening when we were done, and that part was much, much easier than this. Again, as far as looks and quality of the actual work here, I'm making no comparison, since one can't be made. They don't make them anymore, but if anyone remembers the 2 liter bottles of soda, that had the big, black plastic bases, we used those. We'd peel off the base, and then cut the soda bottle in half vertically. We'd then take the bottom, invert it and that would go back onto the base as the top dome. The terrarium, of course, would be made in the base prior to doing so, and it looks like a sealed unit when all done. I was 10 years old, so I'm probably looking back on it with undeserved pride, but in my selective memory it looked really good. I wonder if something similar can be used the same way, to avoid some undo stress. Since then, I've always wanted to get back into doing this. It's really rewarding. Edit: The more I think about it, ours must not have been completely airtight (though the fit was tight), but I'd guess there'd be a solution to fix that.

I just bought one of those glass balls at goodwill for .50 cents. Now I know what I can use it for ! Thanks for working it out for us lol.

Great video. I use a turkey baster to water my terrarium and it works great. I think that would have worked when you were trying to water your substrate before adding the center plants/moss.

I have an idea. But first i want to say, you are absolutely amazing and very knowledgeable and I thank u for sharing and passing it down for others to learn and appreciate. I thought of a way to water it if u tak a bendy straw and attach it to a squeezable bottle then u can put the straw into the terrarium give a squeeze and voila watered plants dry sides. Or get one of those sciency squeeze bottles that come with the long hooked shape neck. And to aid in putting the substrate in for an on the fly creation use a piece of wire that would b appropriately supportive and an empty pill type bottle cut it down if necessary attach the wire so that it looks like a laddle that had it's handle put on upside down and bend the wire so once inside the container u can roll spin the wire between ur fingers and it would turn the pill container upside down and deposit ur substrate. I know this suggestion is way passed when u did this video but who knows maybe it could help you or someone else or it can just simply inspire a even better and more efficient idea of your own. Again thank you for sharing urself with all of us.

This is a genius build. I've actually done something similar for my functional aquarium ring (yes, it functions both as a livestock-free aquarium and as a finger ring, and no, water fleas didn't even survive in it). I also used a similar method on one of my aquariums too, but that was for creating a basement for detritus to accumulate in it in order to minimize any look of malm (it's a bowl aquarium on a Lazy Susan base and the malm used to float more, now it gets directed towards the middle)

For those that use the fishing line, It would have been easier and less time-consuming to use a sewing needle to weave it. Love your videos!

I love your videos! A couple of friends/neighbors of mine along with my uncle sell moss to a buyer. So I have really gotten into the whole moss thing , I already love nature and it's beautiful landscapes. Yeah so I get excited over a tree or rock that is covered in moss . I want to bring it all home with me (impossible) but now I can bring a little piece of it's serenity inside my house. This is a genius idea! Love it !

Big thumbs up on this one! It's funny, I actually did something very similar to this only a couple days before you posted this, but it was with a burnt out streetlight light bulb. I just cut the threads off with a lapidary wheel, removed the guts and put a small fern w/ moss inside it. It's very therapeutic to solve little puzzles like this! Great video!
