I was not sure if a texture pack tool for 1.20 was out yet but I found this video, so simple and easy to learn and not only shows you how to do it but shows why it works like that. I had an issue with my texture pack where I changed the name of an item texture and I couldn't figure out what I did wrong, so this video was very very helpful. Thank you so much!

Another reason you might want to delete all the unnecesarry unmodified textures is because they might conflict with other texture packs you have installed. When i first made mine (Turned the Wood sword into a bokken and the stone sword into a Macuahuitl) the start screen for the game was just blank, grey, and static instead of showing 1.20's cherry blossoms. When I opened one of my worlds and opened my inventory, I had the vanilla GUI instead of the clear one I had installed months ago. other texture packs I had installed might have been affected to, but I didn't check because all my packs are subtle ones. I started over with making my teture pack, this time making sure to delete all unmodified textures and it fixed all the issues. So it's more necesary than you might think to delete them all.

I have been waiting for so long to know how to a make a texture pack, and now I finally know how to!

Actually deleting everything unchanged in the texture pack DOES make a difference. If you don't do that, it will overwrite ALL of the textures below it as minecraft overwrites the textures in a texture pack below it if the file exists.

You need to keep it the name as intended in the video. This is because of Minecraft's code. If you name it other than the original then the texture will not be found because within minecraft's code it executes the texture to be rendered on the official name.

theres another way to get the assets folder out the jar file, you can open the jar with winrar and copy the assets folder

По умолчанию не давало покоя, что останется куча лишних данных. Правда что касается файла "mcMETA", лично я до этого качал текстур пак и в нём были фишки с отображением красивых слов при выборе в настройках датапака. Собственно из него я и взял файл mcMeta, отредактировал под себя. В любом случае, не понимаю, почему на 1.20.4 мало текстурпаков, да и модов тоже мало, хотя фабрик и фордж, уже обновились до 1.20.4, но большинство модов всё ещё на 1.20.1, хотя там, в .4, довольно приятные фиксы. Хороший подробный гайд. 👍

You can't rename the textures because the code says to make the apple texture the folder "apple.png"

I have a problem with the mcmeta part because my text file didnt have a .something. Mine was just a name and i tried to make it a mcmeta but it just changed the name and I tried to use word instead of notes but that made it into a txt and also I couldn’t open it because I don’t own word. I don’t know what to do please help

FINALLY I CAN CHANGE THOSE DUMB GLAZED TERRACOTTA TEXTURES

PLEASE READ: Its a great video but BEFORE 2:15 make sure to probably extract files in a folder in File Explorer. I did exactly what he did HOWEVER it decided to extract 7,000 files on to my desktop and make File explorer un able to open, my desktop become completely empty and wiped of everything that was there, and constantly freeze and refresh the desktop every time I tried to do anything. The way I fixed after 2 hours of crying thinking I broke the pc, press the windows key on your keyboard and then typed "1.20.4" and thankfully something came up as the zip file and I just deleted it then File explorer showed up and I went to "Desktop" which had like 7,567 files on it and filtered the name to "CLASS.FILE" and carefully looked at all 7k files and deleted them and thank god everything went back to normal and was fixed. All in all great video but be careful and not stupid lol.

hey !! hi i followed this process with an optifine installation from my versions folder, ive got to a point where all the files are extracted and ive isolated textures to edit, i assume if im running it back into the optifine installation it will be okay ( i hope ), but should i just stick to and use the 1.20.1 ( thats the optifine version ) pack format or will that cause problems?

I need to swap some block textures that I already created into these folders, but it doesnt let me drag in or ou out anything. I already did one for 1.15, and it worked perfectly. Now, on 1.16, i dont have the permission to do it. Meanwhile, if i tried to do that on colormap, i already have permission
