How to make a TIN CAN DRUM (tutorial)

3 жыл бұрынIn this 3rd episode of Trash to Music, I will show you how to make a music instrument just by using a tin can and plastic bottle!
For this you will need:
MATERIALS - big tin can, plastic bottle, screws or rivets
TOOL - drilling machine, plyer cutter, cissors, heat gun
I'm Kan, a multi-disciplinary artivist from Mauritius island who aspires to find creative solutions to address environmental or social issues. TRASH to MUSIC is a project I founded to inspire & show people how to make instruments from garbage or cheap easy to find materials.

nice video... thanks for sharing. my kids and i watch your video together , and learn from you. It's very good idea and i appreciate the way you explain using a recyled plastic bottle to make the drum skin using fire and hairdryer to create tension. will definitely try to make one with my kids. Merci ☺️ You can cover the borders with bicycle tire cut in strip on any fabric and glued or taped 😉

Ma question est la : pourquoi t’as pas pris un ouvre boîte de conserve pour faire une ouverture plus propre l’ami ?

Très bonne question! Le problème en utilisant l'ouvre boite c'est que la boite devient flexible.. Garder un rebord d'environ 1cm permet de garder une rigidité. J'espère que c'est compréhensible. Bonne fabrication 😉

J’ai tout coupé 😅 mais ça a l’air de tenir quand même, maintenant je comprends mieux pourquoi au fond de ta conserve tu avais laissé un petit bout de métal… pour recycler des bouteilles en plastique, je trouve ça génial la sonorité et l’esthétisme sont meilleurs qu’avec les autres matériaux 👌

As membrane might be too thick and not retract with heat. As a shell maybe it would bend with heat. Let me know how your drums turns out 😉

Instead of Driller and Sandpaper,why not use a can-opener?Its much easier!....thx 4 the Video,I just made my drum for the Beach....it sounds really good!😃

Yes you can use a can opener. But I prefer to keep like 1cm of the lid, it helps to keep the can solid.

Hello, how will tuning work to achieve a different pitch for these drums?

It depends on the tension of the plastic after being heated up. The more you heat and higher goes the pitch. And the longer the drum, lower the note too.

@@Kan_ck1 can we adjust the screws of the can after heating the plastic up so it is able it is able to replicate the loosening and tightening of a drum head?

@@yasin7118 unfortunately the screws just keep the membrane in place, it won’t tighten it. It’s a more complex process.
