This is the best instructional video for building a tire swing - safe and easy to build with parts from hardware stores. I built a swing in my backyard by following the instructions here. It's been more than a month now and it's working great - thanks for spreading the knowledge

This was great!!! I got a used tire free from the tire shop, a used rope from my son who climbs, a throw away tube from the bike shop. Spent about $11 on the hardware, and it went together easily. Grandkids played on it and love it. It swings wide but not high, spins as much as the kids want. Perfect. Thanks!

I have Rheumatoid arthritis in my hands and still found this very easy to make. It took me 2 days of 2 hrs each day and ... done. Very durable, safe. The neighborhood kids simply abused it, standing, jumping, spinning , swinging with no ill effects. I did have to adjust it after the rompust as the knots tightened, the swing was then almost touching the ground. very easy to adjust back up and straighten it out. Highly recommend this method. I added a seat by cutting and then inserting a composite vinyl lattice, drilled some holes around the top of the tire and then wove clothesline rope in and out of the tire and lattice, the kids love it! I love it , it is safe.
@chrisnotap5 жыл бұрын
That's great that it worked for you. Yes, it's very easy to re adjust after the first few days of use once everything tightens up. I like your update with the seat. Thanks!

Aloha, Chris. Thank you for another well-made video. A few notes for my build, I used the black Everbilt 1/2" Dock Line (working load of 650 lbs.) at Home Depot. It conveniently has a loop at the end of one side. For others who are building this swing, do not put too many layers of electrical tape otherwise you will have issues feeding it through a 1/2" stainless steel washer. And do NOT take off the tape after the rope has been cut. Each individual strand will fray and you won't be able to put the end of the line back together. No biggie though, I had to tape the line higher up and cut the frayed pieces off. Lastly, I thought I could just get away with tying knots inside the tire and skimp the additional hardware like the rope clamps, etc. -- although I did use the giant washers. Truthfully, it would work, but it makes it difficult to adjust and level. Anyway, I'm off to the Depot this morning to get those clamps. Oh, and I did go by a local Firestone and asked if I could have a tire. They gladly gave me one. 👍🏼
@Madacompany2 жыл бұрын
I made it! The only difference was the very first step, I used a POOL vinyl drain tube as I had extra and since the tree was short enough, I was able to just lay it over the tree with the rope inside, quick knott bringing both vinyl ends together as you did prior to tossing the wrench over and then continued to follow your instructions to the T and I LOVE it, oh, forgot, trimmed the remaining rope down and taped so the ropes weren’t just hanging around! But like I was saying, I really like it, I feel like it’s totally safe and secure! Thank you for the easy to follow instructions! Total cost was $30 but only because I paid $10 more for the pretty rope color lol, aesthetics is everything after all :)

Hi Chris. I rarely leave comments but couldn’t not after this. It was one of the first videos I came across when we decided to try to do a tyre swing for the kids. Getting the rope was the main challenge but the design and execution as so easy with your descriptions - and the kids love it. Use the extra climbing rope to build a standard bench swing with a piece of left over decking and a trapeze - it’s quite a busy tree now! Thanks again.

Nice job!!...I made one for the grandson using an old atv tire. I would recommend take a 1" hole saw and putting 4 to 5 holes in the bottom of the tire for water drainage. I also fitted a piece of plywood inside so our 3 year old can sit inside it on a cushion. I agree with you...rope is MUCH better than chains or cable. Great video...thanks.

You may have missed it but I did put holes in the bottom and have it on the screen at 4:17. The plywood is a great idea! Enjoy!

+Michael Stevens Good to hear. It really is simple and straight forward to make. This is something my boys did on theirs and your boys will probably figure it out too. They would spin it with no one on it until it was wound up about 5 feet off the ground. They would somehow climb and hop on and then it would spin like crazy with them on it as it un-wound. Letting their heads go outwards would slow it down but pulling themselves back in would make it go faster. Hours and hours of fun! Thanks for commenting.

Very nice video. Your knot was a great idea and worked awesome! I used 2x3’s with a hole inside my tire instead of buying washers and crosby clamps. Worked good. Thanks!
@leifjohnsenvt4 жыл бұрын
What are 2x3's? Another thing that wasn't mentioned in the video is to make sure you drill drainage holes on the bottom of the tire to prevent water buildup and everything that comes with that.. Mosquitoes etc..
@morganmendieta37385 жыл бұрын
Would a good measurement be from ground to the limb plus 10 feet 2x5ft for each additional tie to the tire seem good?? Also, thank you this was a great tutorial. Would you burn the ends to keep them from fraying or is tape good enough?
@anonsmith84635 жыл бұрын
Sweet! The only think I would add is to drill holes in the bottom so that water drains out... of course we get close to 200 inches a year, so maybe you don't need to worry about that... :)
