Nice job. Ive made a few willow hoops myself with a similar technique . Difference is i tie about four loose loops of twine around each willow stick and slide them towards the leverage end of the sticks as im bending them. I just flip the loop over the next nail to hold it until im ready to bend it some more. That takes place of all of that nailing and tearing up your plywood even more. I think its quicker as well. All my life I have been infatuated with Mountain Men and Longhunters, as a young man I trapped beaver and muskrat and tanned them and put them on hoops, hoop construction was never the same twice as I always made progress with each one! They turned out good, my mother didn’t like them in my room, she said my room looked like the inside of a Indian teepee, success, on my part. I miss my youth!

I'm glad you posted this Mark. I'm going to try it with that beaver I just caught. I have a willow tree and I tied several limbs back into a curve. Hoping in a few weeks when I cut them they will keep some of the curve.

Question can I use other wood then willows and how long are your saplings and approximate diameter? Is it better certain times of the year to cut them?

I only use willows but if you can find anything limber enough and won't crack should be ok! The spring is the best time to get them! Thank you very much for watching and supporting my friend!

I'm not sure they grow wild in wet spots so I get the young ones when they are green! Farmers tell me to take them all lol!! Thanks for watching and supporting my friend!
