So helpful!!! I did a project similar to this in college, but with fibre rush and natural raffia! Looking forward to trying it with yarn instead, and this was a good refresher! (it's literally the same process, but we used different materials in my crafts class lol) Thanks so much for this!!!! ^___^

Another way to end the basket is to taper the end of the rope with scizzors and continue the wrap.

yaaay! just how my granny taught me. cant wait to start mine. any suggestions to create a vase shape with lid?
@ArtsyDork
@ArtsyDork 4 жыл бұрын
You just need to gradually angle the coils in and then out. Create another "bowl" for the lid. You can turn it upside down and it will fit over the top or it could even fit inside the lip of the vase, depending on the final vase shape. Good luck!

Quick question... can a person wrap a bunch of the coil before starting the bending and sewing process?
@ArtsyDork
@ArtsyDork 3 жыл бұрын
I would imagine. You would just have to wrap over the initial wrapping when you formed it. That might help to cover more of the cord though, and it would add texture. Good luck!

This was a great tutorial! You have the skill of teaching. Subbed! Possibly a dumb question, but could I just wrap the rope first and then sew it together? Would it be less sturdy?
@ArtsyDork
@ArtsyDork 6 ай бұрын
Thanks so much! I’m sure you could do it that way but you’re right to think that it might be less sturdy. You might need to experiment. I have never tried that way myself so I’d love to hear how it goes. Good luck!

Thanks so much! Oh gosh, wouldn't you know it's been a while since I posted this video so I'm not exactly sure of the width, but I think the widest was a little shy of an inch and the smallest was around a cm thick. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

I love your video and have been working on my first bowl. I have noticed that the bowl can easily be manipulated to flatten or make a bowl? Is that typical or am I doing something wrong?
@ArtsyDork
@ArtsyDork 4 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, I’m sure you’re not doing anything wrong, but it does need to be an extremely tight wrap. It also may help to increase the frequency with which you wrap over two. I hope that helps and thanks for watching! :)

I love your scarf. Is there a pattern, what yarn did you use?
@ArtsyDork
@ArtsyDork 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! It really couldn't be easier. I just knitted both sides (no purl) and I used a slightly textured colored yarn with flecks of other colors. It was a while back, so I'm not sure of the brand (sorry) but I bet you could find a similar style of yarn at JoAnns. Good Luck and Thanks Again!

Hi Dana, It's called coiling cord and you can purchase it here: amzn.to/2CW3heq
@ArtsyDork
@ArtsyDork 5 жыл бұрын
I had students start with four lengths that measured from hand to hand with their arms outstretched. This wasn't an exact measurement of course, but it was a good amount for them to start with and then they could add more as they went along. For a class of 24, I usually ordered four big coils of cord and usually had some left over.

Could you estimate the length of cordage per bowl? Thanks so much!
@ArtsyDork
@ArtsyDork 2 жыл бұрын
Depending on the size of the bowl, I'd say around 4-8 yards.You can also always add on more, so you could start with around 3 yards and see how that does.

maybe you can taper the end of the rope to have a smooth transition while weaving.
