Whoever is reading DONT give up on your channel. Think about all the hard work that you have already put in. Every youtuber was once in your spot they just kept going. Stay consistent and you will reach your goals. consistent uploads and improvement and some determination is all you need! I am going for 350 subs by the end of December!!!

Basically you just upload a video that’s between 5 and 58 sec long that’s vertical or square I guess!

Thanks for the info. I am a beginner in "youtube" and still struggling to make my channel known or have a slice of that big pie and monetized, I was then attracted to those "short videos" but thanks to your commentary, I will not go to that route anymore, you remind me that "youtube" just like the "mainstream media" able to earn their bread and butter (make money) through the advertisements of different companies who trust them, thanks again. 👍👍😀😀😀😀😀

Lighting is such a crucial element of filming videos. It can make or break an entire video and first impressions are super important if you want to turn that viewer to a subscriber. Make sure you have adequate lighting in the right areas, then you'll make sure to impress anyone watches your videos! 👌🏻

Indeed. I’m a gaming channel, but that same thing applies to our commentary and editing. The people that often succeed are those who either have great gameplay and an enjoyable personality, or those like me who do tons of funny meme editing. Good luck!

I remember making a very old video, and because I did not have a ring light back then, the room looked quite dark, even with the normal light on!! So yes, definitely invest in a ring light, I use mine A LOT in face came Storytime videos or even lets plays in general.

This was helpful. I'm late to the Shorts party. Always creating "Longs". Did I see Camtasia at 3:18? That's my go-to! Having watched and read 3 of your blog posts about Shorts, I'm guessing there is no thumbnail to upload, right? I'm likely to still create Shorts using my DSLR, editing it, and uploading from computer. Hoping it gives me the 3 choices for a thumbnail!

Great video - I have been trying to start and used 9:16 ratio for the format. However, some of my videos are recorded 16:9 making it look too small. Do you know if 1:1 format is acceptable for Shorts? I see that it's "square is acceptable", just making sure. Does the quality of the video matter? I've been publishing it in 4k. Also what happens to videos that are a little over 1 min, and has the hashtag shorts ?

Yes 1:1 videos get on the shorts shelf. Videos over a minute, even with the hashtag, do not.

Yeah. I generally make rather good and funny gaming videos (and shorts), but they are often off trend. I think I just need to be able to achieve both of those aspects to find some success.

Can't believe it is such a complicated process to create a SHORT Video! The easy part of making it up to 60 seconds and making it in PORTRAIT is easy - but then it get so ridiculously complicated!! I have had a KZfaq channel for nearly three years now with nearly 400 videos and I was looking at getting into Shorts. But not now. My head hurts! I'll give it a miss. But thanks for the video - without it I would not have believed just how difficult it is.

I created a KZfaq short using the 'create short' option on the mobile app, on the app and the web version of youtube it is classed as a short, but when I go to the analytics nothing appears in reference to shorts? Such a pain in the neck!

Question for the VidIQ community. I have a have a KZfaq channel where I mainly upload my podcast but do upload other content too (podcast-related), I make vertical videos less than 60 seconds which are teasers for the podcast episodes, which I have posted on Instagram and TikTok. Should I post them on my main channel too as KZfaq Shorts? Mind you there are 20+ podcast teasers for episodes that are months old, would it be weird to upload them now?

They can be edited. Only requirement right now is under 60 seconds and vertical (9x16) or square.

Wow. I haven’t seen a ton of luck with my Shorts, but I’m going to try and start posting a lot more. Are there any keywords or “tactics” that seem to bring in more views?

That’s great. They have gained me subs. And I was only posting them “by accident”. I didn’t know what a short was until like a week ago. And I haven’t filmed my actual content yet. Although my content will involve my dog, which the shorts are about, I do hope they watch when I post an actual video. Subs only count for so much. I guess I will find out.

Thank you, guy! I want to start creating shorts but I was wondering what I needed to do, if I could edit on the computer and such. I thought I'd have to transfer the file to my phone afterwards. Thanks for the updates! I see shorts as a door to one's channel. I believe that after 2020, KZfaq got a surge of new channels and they must be trying to create ways to make people create content without paying them for it.

KZfaq makes earning money on their platform very difficult.

We disagree. KZfaq were one of the pioneers of helping creators earn revenue from their content.

@@vidIQ I agree, it seems much harder to make any money on the other platforms even now. The fact that KZfaq allows ad revenue fairly early on (compared to the others) is great.

@@vidIQ They only ask for 11 hours watch time averaged every day over a year to get monetized. It's pretty fair.
