PRINTING A ZINE
------------------
1) Select a set of images and arrange them into a specific or open narrative.
2) Follow the printer's guidelines/specs to prepare your images. PrintStarNow.com has the ones for my type of zine here: printstarnow.c...
3) Layout your images and arrange them in the order that they should be printed. Note: If you're printing spreads (i.e., an image across two pages) use something like inDesign to create the spreads. Then export as a PDF.
** I strongly suggest that you communicate with your printer about how to do this. PrintStar was GREAT at making this process go smoothly.
4) Send the printer your PDF export.
The specs I used for my zine:
- Color Printing, 36 pages (32 Interior + 4 cover pages)
- Paper Type = 80 lb Text, Gloss (Standard)
- Cover Paper Type = 100 lb. Cover, Gloss
- Finished Dimension = 5.5 x 8.5 Portrait Dimension

This resonates with me. Getting burgled while moving house I lost my PC and 20Tb of back up drives. Not a fire but nearly 20 years work. Shooting more film now

Ah, thanks for that. I hadn’t quite put it into words that way but you’re right, there is a strong sense of wanting to hold on to ones body of work as much as possible. It’s a part of you and it’s not something you want to see disappear. 🙏🏽

Life can be very tough on us and I can feel the pain of losing a pet and a lot of your things in such a terrible tragedy. It is a blessing we don´t know what lies ahead of us. As always it is very educating to look at your videos and inspiring for future projects.

Oh man, I remember the Avalon fire. Several friends from Edgewater had family that also lost everything. Given the severity, it's a miracle no one died. Thanks for the link to Prinstarnow. The prices seem very reasonable. I'm helping a friend put together a design portfolio to send out with her resumes. Several other online printing services charge 1.5-2x as much for what she would need. If you vouch for the quality, that's good enough for me.

@@kikeheebchinkjigaboo6631 I understand that, and yes losing a pet for any reason including old age sucks. Been there, done that. Having said that, "Grandma's cat died" is a far cry from "Bob's wife and 6 year old son died while he was working the night shift". One is a tragedy for the immediate family while the other strikes the entire family, coworkers, friends, classmates and often the community.

Hey Ed, I am a subscriber, but I do not comment. I watched your video about Jack and want to extend to you (and your family) my heartfelt thoughts. I am so sorry for Jack and for all the loss you and your family have suffered. I am a longtime commercial photographer that is finally retired. I cannot imagine the loss you have had. After everything you’ve been through it looks like you’ve created a true work of art. Knowing the background story makes it even more special and I’m pleased for you that you have created this. I’m also pleased you’ve found some of your old work. However, more than anything I’m pleased you are moving forward with a vengeance. I’d hate to think of something like your experience paralysing your talent or drive, that could have been the greatest loss of all.

Wow Ed.. so sorry for your loss.. we have 4 granddaughters but we also have 3 fur babies... 3 chihuahua’s .. Great job with the book ... My family keeps asking me to create a table top book with all my bird pix’s.. I keep putting it off for years because I felt my work was not good enough.. I may have to print my work and lay it out like you did... Thanks for the inspiration... glad I found your channel recently.. I’ve been binge watching your past videos when I can... Well that was enlightening and added a whole new context to the zine. I enjoyed the creative and moody images but I'll look at it differently now and w an edge of sadness. I'm sorry for the tragedy and the loss of Jack. But this zine journey of yours is very motivational. Thanks for passing it on.
